How much money to gift

Hey,

Just wondering how much do people gift there god children / nieces and nephew for Christmas and birthdays.
I don't have any children and I always feel anxious about how much I should be giving.
I know people will say say it's up me but I would just like an idea of how much people generally gift? I'm based in Ireland and my family don't usually talk about money.
Any input would be great xx

I give £20 to the three of them each at Christmas and again for their birthdays. I can't actually afford it though so use the birthday and Christmas money given to me by my parents to give to them. My parents can't afford the money they gift me (£60) and I know they'd be so upset if they knew.

I have a few, so around £20 each for a gift. Although whenever one of us have been on mat leave for example it not been uncommon for the kids just to do a secret Santa and buy for one other child.

£20

That's great help guys. Thanks so much.

They are ages 17 to 12 and I have 5 although two I hardly see so really it's 3. I usually give 50 to 60 euros but I'm now thinking that's a bit excessive for a kid. And they don't want for anything.
I'm am staying firmly capped at 50, only cause I've made a rod for my own back🤦‍♀️
Wish I asked this question years ago x

Agree. Around £20. You could always put some in a savings account if you feel they don’t need more ‘stuff’

DeletedByAccident · 16/09/2021 16:18

Yep £20 here too.
£100 -£150 for the big 18 & 21 birthdays then gifts stop anyway.

YouveBeenLittUp · 16/09/2021 16:20

I think it depends how many you have to buy for and your own situation.
We spend £50 on each niece and nephew and have 4. Sil has 10 and tends to spend about £20 on each so I think it totally depends on your own circumstances.

BrilliantBetty · 16/09/2021 16:39

£50 but only have the one.
And that's for birthday. Xmas is less about £25 and not cash, a toy or clothes as I've a lot to fork out for that time of year.

Why are you giving them money if you cannot afford it?

Probably peer pressure/guilt like me🙄🤦‍♀️🤣
I'm trying to save for a house too!

Yeah, £20 is fine if there are 3 of them, I'd probably give slightly more for a single child

LittleBearPad · 16/09/2021 17:14

£40 or so per present but I only have 2. Nothing to godchildren.

It’s mad to spend money you don’t have

MydogWillow · 16/09/2021 17:18

£25 for the younger ones (under 16) and £30 for the ones in their 20's.
