Have you ever bought more than one of something to sell on at a profit later?

Just wondering what type of person does this and the motives behind it.

Just getting reallt cross with the amount of people who are struggling, again, this year to get hold of tyos and things for their children's Christmas presents. And it isn't just reserved for Wiis and pink DSs this year, but dolls, £10 toys, and the like.

Yet go on ebay and there are plenty of these items, all at highly inflated prices, with people havigng multiple stock of them.

Would you do this?
Do you do this?
Why would you want to? Is it just money grabbing?

And if you do - don't! It isn't fair on those other children.

i have bought things to sell on on ebay, but more things like next clothing- i'm lucky to have a good outlet near me that have sales on all the time- like at the mo all womens tops are £1 and all kids clothing is £2 or less!!- coats, full outfits etc.....i'm skint at the mo, but if i had a spare £10 i'd buy a few bits to sell on and i could easily double my money- and people still feel they've got a bargain compaired to the rrp!!- i always start my bidding at what i paid but i normally get at least double that in the end!!

but things like wii's etc i cant afford myself let alone to stockpile and sell on at xmas to make a ton of money!!- i use the money i make to buy more clothes for my kids, treat them on days out al all without it coming out of our normal budget!!

Lol! Me to! How you are meant to get the real close up tickets I really don't know!

Chopster · 04/12/2007 15:06

I've done it lots. Never with christmas toys though! We used to make quite a bit out of it, used to be a little side income.

I've sold everything from shark jaws to musical instruments! We had a separate account and started small then as turnover increased we had money to buy new stock with.

Also, things like dvds, we were selling boxsets, but shipping them directly from amazon. Most of the buyers were happy though, the mark up on the amazon list price wasn't more than a few pounds (we had a discount) and we were the cheapest on ebay.

I don't think fairness really comes into it, if people don't think it is fair, then they won't pay the prices.

I bought 3 wiis last year. Sold two and nearly made enough to cover the cost of the third which we kept.

Hulababy · 04/12/2007 15:07

I still couldn't have done it though Cod. I'd have come on MN, seen all these requests of people looking for them and then sold it on to them, at cost plus P&P.

I am a softie, I fall for the stories.

I was too organised - got the Wii in September (sold old toys to fund, etc via here and ebay but at a very reasonable price) but was so early we just opened it there and then! So had to get Christmas pressies on top!

We got our Wii when they came out last year before all of the fuss this year.... Are they an upgraded model or something?

Hulababy · 04/12/2007 15:14

No exaxctly the same I believe. But there was all this fuss and low stock before Christmas last year too.

What I can't undrrstand is people who reserve things at argos then try and sell the numbers on EBAY .I have just seen someone selling reservation numbers for 2 make me better dolls at 5.00 each amd a pink ds lite number 15.00 each.
Why tie up the little stock thats in by reserving it and trying to flog the number?

3missyshohoho · 04/12/2007 15:15

Oh! Must have been oblivious to that as I ordered it online.

Well for any of you whose children wanted a Wii this Christmas, my dts have been told that the elves broke the machine that makes them so only some children will get them this year.

No way am I paying someone £300 to line their pockets.
