OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 03/12/2007 10:47

Not sure if you want input about whether to use these or not but imo they are too hard - between hubby and I we only know 5.

We do quizzes for our local lib-dem nights and the rule of thumb is to make 7 'easy' and three harder so that typically people score 8's and 9's. Then its a close finish.

Sorry if thats no help at all and you just wanted people to answer

handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:47

Too hard? really?

OP posts:
SquonkaClaus · 03/12/2007 10:48
  1. Rabbie Burns
  2. swan?
  3. ?
  4. fred basset
  5. 2?
  6. Rainbow Warrior
  7. J
  8. STOP
  9. Blue moon
10. Roosevelt?

Much better

I didn't know them all, but the ones I didn't know, I felt that it was MY fault that I didn't know them, rather than yours for asking a stupid question.

Not sure how many of the ones I think I knew that I actually knew, but I feel good after answering these questions.

Ta

Hulababy · 03/12/2007 10:48

I think they are really hard - not sure if they are really hard or if I am having a dunce day! Not sure I dare even attempt them.

SquonkaClaus · 03/12/2007 10:48

It's still hard, btw, but not obscure

handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:49

Mind you saying that I could only answer 3 or 4 right (if I didn't have the answers in front of me) but then I'm not representative as I am not great at quizzes.

I will go for the 7 easy rule. Don't want to demoralise participants

OP posts:
gizmo · 03/12/2007 10:50

I'd say easier than the last lot, HMC - I think I can do 7 off the bat (I'll wait for the answers before I get too full of meself, though!)

handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:52

OMG [quiz master crisis of confidence alert emoticon]I'm crap at this - boo hoo!

There were 1 or 2 questions on the other thread that were easier for people to answer. Perhaps if I blend the questions picking out of the most 'accessible' from both then I might get there

This is much harder than it looks!

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:52

Oooh thanks Gizmo

OP posts:
MerryAnnSinglemas · 03/12/2007 10:52

I can only answer these -

  1. swan
3.Bacardi
  1. 4
6.Rainbow Warrior 8.one way 10. Roosevelt
SquonkaClaus · 03/12/2007 10:52

HMC - you should only ever ask questions that you know the answer to.

Then if someone complains that the question or answer is wrong (it happens a lot in "fun" quizzes) then you don't have to spend ages looking it up.

handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:53

Well yes I do know the answers to these Squonka (but only because I have looked them up)

OP posts:
SquonkaClaus · 03/12/2007 10:54

y'see, now I've seen MAS's answers, I'm thinking "Bacardi, of course it's bloody bacardi, Squonk you dumb nuts!" rather than "how the fecking hell does anyone expect me to know that!"

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 03/12/2007 10:54

1)?

2)Swans 3)Bacardi!!!!!!!

4)?

5)3 or 4, not sure

6)think it was the rainbow warrier but not sure

7)J

8)stop

9)?

  1. I did this at school, but unsure, was it Truman?
handlemecarefully · 03/12/2007 10:57

I don't think anyone should expect to personally get a very high score because typically in a quiz you individually might be able to answer 4/5/6 questions correctly(some of which you team mates will also know), and your team mates between them would be able to fill in gaps and answer another couple. Isn't that a fair assessment?

I'm finding this very useful btw. I hope I am not going to bore you rigid but I fully intend to post the arts and literature questions etc later

OP posts:
Mercy · 03/12/2007 10:59
  1. Robert Burns

  2. Swans

  3. 4

  4. Rainbow Warrior

  5. Truman

I think this one is harder!

Lauriefairycake · 03/12/2007 10:59

It's very very hard to do quizzes (I bought a quiz questions book off ebay for a couple of quid for history and literature) and I just do the politics, entertainment and current affairs in the week before from stuff in the papers. For general knowledge I relate the question to the category so the american president one would be history, I don't do an actual general knowledge section (there's nothing wrong with doing one, it's just the way I do it as I like people to get into a zone like for example the drink question I would put in a food and drink category as a hard one).

I made exactly the same mistake you could do, made them too hard and people were only scoring 4 and 5 and getting pissed off. The best one is always the picture round, cut out of newspapers and magazines, badly pasted onto paper and then photocopied (always provides the most arguments)

gizmo · 03/12/2007 11:00

Ok, so off the top of my head here's what I think are the answers to the easier questions

  1. Rabbie Burns
  2. Swans
  3. Bacardi
  4. 2
  5. Rainbow Warrior
  6. Q
  7. Gibbous? 10)Roosevelt?

I am fair to middling at pub quizzes...many years ago I was selected for my school team on 'Top of the Form' (ancient Radio 4 triv quiz for schools) but it's all been downhill from there!

SquonkaClaus · 03/12/2007 11:00

I was just about to post that, HMC, if we were a real quiz team, right now, I'd be discussing with firefly which president it was, I nearly said Truman, but changed my mind... we would be having a discussion about it.

I think all those questions are get-able iykwim.

And please post the art & lit questions, looking forward to it.

Mercy · 03/12/2007 11:00

That is a fair point about team mates, HMC

tarantula · 03/12/2007 11:00

7)Apart from the letter X, what other letter scores 8 in scrabble? J

I think these are even harder!

Lauriefairycake · 03/12/2007 11:02

If your doing the literature section later put one in about the woman who wrote Cranford, that way you pick up telly addicts and literature buffs

gizmo · 03/12/2007 11:04

It appears I may need to revise my baking habits, judging by the answers on the teaspoon:tablespoon ratio
