... is it really cost effective when some stuff sells for £1, and you have to go through all that time and effort of photographing it, posting it, et al? I've loads of really nice children's clothes that are languishing in a vacuum packed bag under various beds, but the effort involved in selling them seems to outweigh the money I'd get for them.

How exactly is it cost/time effective? Postage too. And don't Ebay charge listing fees?

Ooooh, I'd love to know!!!!

No, not really, it's tedious, very tedious.... Would a car boot be better? (and more straightaway - to quote Lola!) or you could sell them in bundles so not too many different lots to keep tabs on etc?

Car boot sales scare me - I can only imagine it's like the Church jumble sales I help out at, but worse.

Cue a new job here - flogging stuff for people who have nice stuff but not the inclination - on a percentage? Now, where's my stuff ....

NCT? Maybe depends on the balance between 'desparate to get rid' and 'need to make money'. I did a load of winter clothes for our last local clothes sale, took a fair bit of effort ironing stuff, putting on hangers, doing labels, I worked out I sold about 2/3 of what I put up for sale, and you get 70% of the sale price. I ticked boxes on almost everything for 'give to charity' if it doesn't sell, so I knew I was seeing the last of all the stuff (nearly all) but didn't know until I got the cheque what had actually sold. Probably a day's work for about £50 in the end ... not as labour intensive as Ebay, no trips to the post office.

I don't have the inclanation to sell all my stuff on ebay and I hate car boots sales. My new trick is to save up a couple of large boxes of unwanted stuff and then put an ad in the local paper (free) and list it as car boot stock. Last time time someone took it off my hands for £50. The last time I did a car boot sale I had a lot more stuff and only made £30, had to get up at the butt crack of dawn and deal with loads of annoying people saying "ooh will you take 10p for it"

That's a good idea connor!

We did a car boot about this time last year, and I was very nervous about it, but it was great fun, a bit of commararderie (sp???!!) amongst the sellers and a couple of hours of 'shifting stuff' we were happy!!! made over £100 but wasn't just clothes.
