Who honestly enjoys Christmas fairs?

They all seem to be rather depressing affairs full of lurid sweets, cheap plastic things, non-fairtrade chocolate and toys and animal-tested toiletries.
And people singing dirges - not even real carols - too close to the damn microphone. People were wincing!
The worst thing is that so many people make so much effort. How could it be better?

don't think it was a fundraising thing - more a cashing in thing - hence the bad feeling.

S'okay MamaG

It wasn't a particularly fundraising thing. Each stall was fundraising for itself but there were no new ideas really.
And, as I said, so many sweets and plastic.
So I had to walk around being puritanical, but obviously not puritanical enough as ds2 did eat some shite and was sick.

I also hate the "if you don't let your kids eat shite you are boring/poncy/mean" attitude.

School ones are awful. We all go in at the same time (for some reason they think doing them after school is a good idea) and shuffle round like some sort of chain gang.

You don't get to see anything and the good stuff is sold out in a few minutes and you end up buying back whatever you donated in the first place!

I know they raise a lot of money but it isn't a pleasant experience.
