My Dh is trying to phone his friend in France. Friend told dh that the code is 33 but it won't work, checked diary and it also says 33. anyone have any idea what we're doing wrong? is there another number that we should be dialling?

Are you going to be ringing France a lot, Linnet? If so sign up for 18866 - it's only 2p a minute. (Used to be 1p but UK national calls are now free so they have to pay for them somehow!)

Glad you got through, linnet. I hope you're on a nice low tarrif for the calls. 1899 is a good one at 1p a minute anytime.

May as well sign up for both. Nothing to lose!

OMG 80smum, 1899 is even cheaper for almost everything and I spent hours the other day adding 18866 in front of all the numbers in our phones!

Ah - just checked and their connection charge is 3p though - 18866's is still 1p I think...it's very swings and roundabouts, isn't it!

JanH · 08/11/2004 22:31

Will have to print both out and choose which code to use depending on where I'm ringing and when!

Dh doesn't phone very often they usually chat on the computer but since dh is so slow at typing he occasionally phones.

The number is on our BT friends and family and the french calls are always less than I expect them to be.

Thanks for the links though.

Hard to keep up isn't it? They change tarrifs all the time. I find the website moneysavingexpert very useful for all sorts of ways to save one's hard-earned cash.
Back to phones: We are registered with One-tel as a dialler preselect and with 18866 as well. One-tel StandardUKTalk has completely free landline calls at weekends, no connection charge at all. So we use One-tel at weekends and 18866 all other times, which as you know charges only the 1p connection fee. Hardly pay anything. In fact, when we signed up with One-tel back in July they had a special offer of £20 off your first bill if you sign up online. Our current bill is still at minus £12!
