Does anyone drive a Volkswagon Beetle (Cabriolet or normal)?

Can you just tell me how you find it? I am looking at a couple (want to change from a mini).
If you have a cabriolet does it have an electric or manual roof, and does it make that much difference apart from the ponce effect?
Most important, does it have run-flat tyres or normal tyres??

TIA

It has a flat windscreen, very reliable, cheap to fix, though lots of welding needed this year. Very cheap to tax, also very cheap to insure £180 fully comp.

oh bollocks cod if you dont have anything to say then dont bother, not in the mood for you today!

The heating doesn't work, but I miss it, waiting for DH to do some of the work that is needed - hopefully will be back on the road in the spring

I drove one for a day as a courtesy car a couple of years ago. I couldn't get my kids' high back car seats in the back - I had to use a booster cushion for my 4 yr old and nothing for the 6 yr old .

mosschops30 · 26/11/2007 15:06

i'm thinking the car seat situation wont be as bad as my mini .
But I will try the car seat in it, thanks iota. Apart from that was it nice?

I used to have one and found it difficult getting Joe in and out of the back. His car seat fit fine, but it buggered my back getting him in the back because of the sloping shape of the car.

Apart from that, mine didn't have run flat tyres, but I had aftermarket wheels, so they weren't manufacturer standard.

I have the 2.0 litre which was quite heavy on fuel and wasn't that fast off the mark, but perky enough.

Also, the boot is a rubbish shape so we were very limited with the pushchair - ended up with a Loola which was fine in buggy mode, but no good with the pram top as well. There's virtually no room for anything else when the buggy's in there too.

As the body of the car is made of aluminium, it dents very easily and any dings from the supermarket etc quickly make the car look knocked about and a bit shabby.

But apart from all that, I LOVED my beetle! If I had older children who could get themselves in and out of the car, and didn't need a buggy, I'd definitely wouldn't have got rid!

Hope this helps

A friend of mine got rid of hers because she found it near impossible to get her dd in and out of her child seat. She loved the car though.
