Hi. I've just bought something from a German seller on ebay (my 1st ebay experience) & I don't speak any German. Very silly but here's what the seller wrote:

Zahlungshinweise: Bitte benutzen Sie nach erfolgreicher Steigerung die Kaufabwicklung. Bei Fragen maile ich selbstverständlich zurück.

Please translate! Many thanks...

I think they are just asking you to pay! (Your seller) will respond to any questions by email. Does that make sense?

mammya · 06/11/2004 22:27

Hi, I speak some German, will give it a go...
Zahlungshinwweise means something like payment advice.
Please use (the purchase completion?) following successful bidding. I will reply by email to any questions.
This is very approximate, the bit in brackets I got from Babelfish, I'm not sure what it means.
Does that help? Hope you get better replies!

mammya · 06/11/2004 22:27

Yes, I think rowlers is right!

hunkermunker · 06/11/2004 22:28

This is what altavista's babelfish says - sorry, I don't speak German, but I know a website that does (modern age or what?!):

"Payment references: Please you use the purchase completion after successful increase. With questions maile I naturally back."

HTH - a bit...! You can translate the other way too, but you've seen the pig's ear it makes of translating to English, so you may just offend your seller. Not being much help - sorry!

Rowlers · 06/11/2004 22:29

As a language teacher, I am always telling pupils NOT to use babblefish! It never makes sense...

MarsLady · 06/11/2004 22:30

according to dh, if you email the seller via ebay it should be translated. So email them and ask what they were trying to say. Apparently it's one of ebays services. hth

sanssouci · 06/11/2004 22:31

Thank you so much! But how do I pay? There doesn't seem to be any mention of PayPal anywhere. I've committed myself but what if the seller doesn't speak English or French? I guess I've done something pretty stupid (impulse buying) but I certainly would like to purchase the article. (Baby Born outfit).

Hi sanssouci
it says "Payment advice: After successful bidding you should use the (Kaufabwicklung). Please e/mail me if you have any questions."

In spite of being German myself I have no idea what is meant by "Kaufabwicklung." If you post the link to the site maybe I could have a look if there's any more information, or I could write the text for an e/mail to the seller if you want to.
Let me know if you would like my help!

I sent a message directly to the seller in English but in case he doesn't understand it, could you translate it for me please emkana?

Dear Mr Baumgarten,

I'm terribly sorry but I can only read a few words of German! Do you speak any English or French? I would love to buy this outfit for my daughter's Baby Born but have never actually bought anything on ebay before and have no idea what to do.

I hope we can work this out!

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sehr geehrter Herr Baumgarten,
MfG

sanssouci

HTH!

Wonderful! Thanks so much emkana. I will send your translation & let you know what happens tomorrow. Have just been reading the thread about the poor MNer whose son fell from the hairdresser's chair & feel very stupid for making such a fuss over a doll's dress! Anyway, thanks again.

Sorry about that!!!!!!!!!!!

sanssouci · 06/11/2004 23:13
