HELP!!! PLUMBING EMERGENCY!!!

Anyone a plumber or living with one??

Ds has just left the bath tap on,unbeknownst to me until the water has started trickling through the kitchen ceiling.

Obviously I have let bath out and chucked old towels everywhere but am concerned that the main point of the water trickling through the ceiling, down the wall is right on top of the light switch to the kitchen.Obviously am not going to switch light off at this point but what to do?

Will the ceiling fall down?

What about the soggy electrics?

Anyone know a decnt plumber?

HELP!!!

Calm down. Mop up as much as you can. If it's running down the wall, the ceiling is less likely to fall down than if water is coming through the middle of the ceiling.

We've had water through ceilings several times without losing them. Leave it overnight to let it dry out. If you need to turn the light switch off, wear rubber-soled shoes and use a broom handle.

I don't think you need a plumber, as there isn't a leak. Wait till morning and see what the damage is. With luck you'll have nothing more than an ugly brown stain on the ceiling wall. Wait for that to dry thoroughly (a week or so), give it a coat of gloss to seal it and then repaint as usual.

If you're really concerned about the electrics you can turn off the relevant section at the fuseboard. But unless you have really ancient electrics, most systems now are sensitive enough that it will trip out if there's anything resembling a short circuit.

Really, don't panic. Unless your ceilings are old Victorian lath and plaster ones they generally don't fall down that easily.

CheersDP is in hossy and he ususally deals with this type of stuff (crap girly idiot emoticon). We have not had much luck with stuff like this before as when we moved in here the old central heating boiler blew up and brought down our bedroom ceiling. Then dp once nailed through a waterpipe(typical joiner,eh:O)) and that brought the living room ceiling down.So I really don't want another ceiling disaster :O

Can I recommend looking around for one of these or something similar just in case.

daft question perhaps but have you tried your insurance company? my ds did something similar and i didnt even think of it and phoned my mum in a panic. she told me to check with ins and they came out and sorted it all out, i thought it was only a bit of water but we got new lino etc and more importantly someone came straight out and took control!!

If the plaster of the ceiling in the kitchen is holding water, I would poke a few holes to release the water. Honest!
