Smack the bastard.

Poor you. How did it happen? Stranger or visitor?

What you need to do is review your security.

fireflyfairy2 · 24/11/2007 18:21

Are you sure you haven't misplaced it?

Mercy · 24/11/2007 18:21

Oh no, how awful. Are you ok? How did it happen and are you sure that's the only thing missing?

Desiderata · 24/11/2007 18:21

How are you sure, J2O? Could one of the kids have picked it up?

J2O · 24/11/2007 18:28

they didn't go through a locked gate they climbed over my fence, sneaked through my door without making the windchime make a noise and took my purse and some money off the side, then unbolted my gate to get out, i'm absolutley gutted, mainly knowing someone was in my house

EVERYONE MAKE SURE THEY KEEP THERE DOORS LOCKED!!!

I bet it was kids, J2O. I have a couple who get into my back yard on occasion (open access), and in the summer, £15 went missing from my purse. I had the door open. I reckon they were clever enough not to take the whole lot ... but to try to come back for more.

Obviously I can't prove it. They don't look like very happy children either, so a part of me feels sorry.

But what a bummer for you. Are you OK? Do you have enough for Christmas?

I had my purse stolen from my hall this time last year.

We had a boy who used to come round offering to wash our car. I let him do it once but he wasn't very good so if I answered the door I just said I had no cash and sent him on his way. All very polite. Anyway, one day I was upstairs putting some stuff away and DS2 was in the lounge playing and the boy came to the door again. I decided to stay out of the way and ignore him. Unfortunately, DS2 for some reason took it into his head to open the door (he probably recognised the boy) and when I came down the stairs the boy was at the end of the drive. I shouted something after him but he didn't want to talk and clearly couldn't wait to get away. I noticed that about £5 had been taken from the window ledge although there was probably about £15 in cash there before so he left some but I then realised that my purse was missing with £80 which the deposit for our toddler group's mothers christmas 'do'. I normally have only £20 in at most too so he got very lucky.

Called the police. They came round and took a statement. Tried to talk to DS2 but got no joy other than him nodding when he was asked if he had opened the door. They even sent SOCO round but there was nothing to finger print.

We did find out his name through a lady we know who we saw talking to him but nothing happened. I got a call 2 months ago saying they had just interviewed the boy and couldn't take the matter any further! Why did it take 10 months?

DH saw him at the local shop once and let him know we were on to him but he knew that there was nothing we could do so he just smirked at DH and walked away.

It is horrible having somebody in your house though and it is horrible that you can't leave the door open and not expect to have people take things from your house.

I know you have cancelled your bank cards but did you have anything else like library cards or supermarket loyalty cards that need to reapplied for especially if you have been saving points for Christmas? Anything that might lead to identify fraud? My NI card was in my purse but I don't think that the boy who took my purse would do anything with it. He was an opportunist but it has heightened my awareness and if anything unusual happened that I couldn't explain, I don't think I would waste any time contacting the police.

Sorry you had to go through this J20.

How horrible.

One of the mums at school discovered on Friday night that someone had been in her house on Wednesday and stole the mobile phone that was to be one of the prizes in the raffle at our school Xmas Bazaar on Saturday. Poor thing - she was mortified.

sh** i forgot about my NI card! it had everything in! my driving licence, my boots loyalty card with about £30 that i've been saving up, i had about 25 various cards, its just trying to remember them all so i can inform them, have emailed Boots but not had no reply yet, i'm really hoping they've dumped my purse and someone hands it in with some of the stuff in, i had a newborn photo card of dd2 in it as well

i'm ok, dd1 is a bit panicky when she hears noises, i'm thinking of putting barb wire round the top of my fence.

i think it was kids too as they didn't take my laptop and it was next to my purse!

sorry for everyone else that has been through it, its horrible.
