are ALL girl's nighties polyester??

Why are girls pyjamas available in cotton but every nightie I've seen is polyester?
I know Boden do cotton nighties, but I was hoping to find some a bit cheaper.
Anyone come across reasonably priced cotton ones... have tried Next, M&S, Vertbaudet, Redoute, etc.

primark? their pyjamas are surprisingly good.

bumpbumpbump · 23/11/2007 16:46

Yes, I agree, I do get pyjamas from there and they are cotton, but for some reason the nighties are all polyester!!

how annoying. have to admit dd has boden ones. how about john lewis?

Marina · 23/11/2007 16:49

Watch out for Tchibo's childrenswear, it's usually pure cotton

bumpbumpbump · 23/11/2007 16:51

Wow! sweet girly nighties in cotton on JL website for £12! Thank you, great suggestion!

my DD always sleeps in over sized cotton t-shirts (usually ones that well meaning rellies have sent, 3 sizes too big, with "I love the Philipines" or similar on the front!) - could you do that?

NAB3littlemonkeys · 23/11/2007 16:52

I got some brushed cotton ones in Sainsbury's last year.

Mercy · 23/11/2007 16:52

I have the same problem!

I've often ended up in Mothercare actually. What about Adams? I think you can order online from them.

Piffle · 23/11/2007 16:52

buy the boden ones on ebay
there are a few £10 off £30 spend codes too at boden atm
makes ense you can flog them on and make some money back afterwards as they hold their value.

Was about to post the same question! Very frustrating. I've ended up buying dd some summer frocks in cotton jersey for her to use as nighties - but what she'd really like is something princessy.

mrsmalumbas · 23/11/2007 16:58

At least we don't have nylon sheets anymore - I remember as a child having nylon nightie AND nylon sheets - if I moved about in bed, sparks would fly!

MrsBadger · 23/11/2007 16:58

stupidly expensive though

MrsBadger · 23/11/2007 17:01

and the regular boden ones are polyester now anyway

it's a flammability thing

PrettyCandles · 23/11/2007 17:10

But in that case why are pfs pure cotton? And you can get woven cotton nighties, just not jersey cotton nighties.

Piffle · 23/11/2007 17:11

Boden still do cotton nighties infact most all of their nightwear is good thick cotton

bumpbumpbump · 23/11/2007 17:11

aaah perhaps that's the reason?? but I would have thought cotton to be less flammable than synthetics??

OP posts:
Mercy · 23/11/2007 17:12

Just realised you meant nightdresses as opposed to pyjamas

So which material is more flammable? I don't understand.

fizzbuzz · 23/11/2007 17:39

Synthetics more flammable and more dangerous.

Polyester melts, and burns very fast. Cotton burns slowly.

Know all about this.........have to teach it every year......

white company.... but they are expensive like boden

Mercy · 23/11/2007 21:11

I did mmj!

I'd assumed polyester was more flammmable than cotton. But I still don't understand why a nightdress should be made of such material as opposed to pyjamas.

EmsMum · 23/11/2007 21:15

Going to check out White co sale... I've got DD some good cotton nightclothes from them that last really well, but never full price.

Actually want PJs at the mo but they don't always have much in larger sizes.

DrSpeckschwarteSurprise · 23/11/2007 21:28

Jako-o nightie

or this one

German companies are good for natural fabrics. Someone mentioned tchibo, they often have lovely nighties. does have 20% polyester though

fizzbuzz · 23/11/2007 21:40

Isn't polyester cheaper, and non-iron which is why it is used for sleepwear. If it is mixed with cotton it creases less than cotton, but agree 100% is an odd choice for nightwear
