Not sure what to do really. DD loves fireworks, but I haven't taken her to a bonfire before. Can't reember last time i went to one either.

Trouble is in Sheffield there aren't really many small ones as we have a huge organised one instead. Just don't know if it might be a bit much for her.

After Dark 2004

It has stage (Girls Aloud is main act), bonfire, firework display, stalls, fire jugglers, etc. Costs £6 each but DD would be free. Haven't bought tivkets yet though.

Think there may be a smaller bonfire/fireworks tomorrow evening, noit too far away. Not sure whetehr to go to that instead.

What is everyone doing?

Going to school's fireworks display.

Is a R.C. school so we have fireworks but no bonfire which is fine by DD. Will be nice and they do food and drink etc. and her friends will be there!

bonkerz · 05/11/2004 09:46

having a small get together with a couple of ds mates and a few cheap fireworks!

babybliss · 05/11/2004 10:02

I'm quite lucky as my parents house overlooks (from a hill) 2 schoolfields then the local rugby club where they hold a large fireworks display so all the family go for burgers on the balcony at Granny's with a free fireworks show from a very safe distance!

Going to my sister's. She had a very very long garden, with a gated patio immediately in front of the back door. Went last year and it worked out very well as children were in a secured area. We all had a lovely time and cousins played together etc. Bangers and mash for supper.

fio2 · 05/11/2004 10:11

They are having a free display on the peir and we are going to have jacket potatos with chilli and hot dogs and then have a walk down and sit on the beach and watch them

fio2 · 05/11/2004 10:11

I do really know how to spell pier and potatoes!

Our school PTA are having a lovely small village do to raise funds for the village playground. It is great - so many people pulling together. Group of dads put up the marquee yesterday, a few mums are making toffee apples, mulled wine, soup etc. and another group are busy making cakes. I am on bonfire pile duty for the afternoon and looking forward to messing about building a massive bonfire ready for tonight. Good old fashioned village fun - can?t beat it. (nice to be positive about something for a change - feel like I only moan on this website these days)

burning our laminate floor!
(anything to avoid dh doing this inside the house)

PicadillyCircus · 05/11/2004 10:48

We're going to stay with DH's mum, dad and sister for the weekend. Think they have firework things planned in the garden tonight (also there will be SIL's friends - lots of 13 and 14 year old girls to cuddle DS who's 11.5 months).

As long as I get my sparklers, I don't mond what happens

willow2 · 05/11/2004 11:17

It's a big secret but we're going up by river to the Houses of Parliament, smuggling in a couple of barrels of gunpowder and then...

Doh! Me and my big mouth.

I've been alone with dd all week, (dp working away), and really wanted to treat her tonight. She's never been OUT to a firework display and insists she won't be scared!(She's 3.6) so i rang tourist info to see and there's only one huge display in Cricket ground which i think will be too much for her!
THEN, my doorbell went and it was my a lady who lives over the road who i've become freinds with as her little boy, same age as dd, and my dd get on great! She invited us to their house for small display, so dd will get to see freind in small safe and freindly enviroment!

Bless her, she's made my day!+
Hope you all have fun++++++++++++++++++

DD1 is going to an organised display with the Brownies tonight - and I'm going along as a Parent Helper

DS1 and DD2 won't be able to come along, but there is another display tomorrow at the Football ground, so may take them to that.

Have dug out my gloves/scarf and hat for tonight - I'm already a bit chilly today

nutcracker · 05/11/2004 12:17

My neighbour is having a fireworks extravaganza in his back garden, to go with his xmas ligh extravaganza on the front of his house

We will be watching from the safety of dd2's bedroom

We always let our fireworks off on Nov 1st when it's ds1 birthday. Went to an organised bonfire on Wednesday and will be going to school for fireworks this afternoon.

Tiggiwinkle · 05/11/2004 12:23

We will be going to the display just up the road at Blackheath (London)as we do every year-but it is tomorrow, not tonight.

LIZS · 05/11/2004 12:25

Being abroad it is not celebrated here - we have fireworks on August 1st (National Day) and New year. Oh and there is a strange end of winter procesion in April which culminates in a huge bonfire with effigy of a snowman which explodes !!

Getting fireworks at this time of year is in itself a challenge. It is also technically illegal to set them off, but unless anyone calls the Police they should turn a blind eye...so we'll see what happens as our neighbours have invited us around !

I've just retuned rom ds' school where another English mum told the kids the story of Guy Fawkes (carefully editted so as to avoid causing offence) and we shared a bonfire cake with sparklers on the top and stuffed a guy. The kids will then tout him round other classes to collect money for a school in Africa.

Our town do a huge display in the park . We park the car near to the football stadium so that we can see them but they're not too noisy. Might get an extra flask and put hot dogs in too Oh and it's tomorrow evening.

Angeliz, so pleased for you and dd

misdee · 05/11/2004 12:45

i want to go to fairlands valley in stevanage for their display but dont think dh will be up for it tbh. so tomorrow we are going to have some fireworks at MIL place.

saintshar · 05/11/2004 12:47

We are having a display in our garden.
There are lots of people coming around, and we have all clubbed together to buy the fireworks. We have LOADS!! About £120's worth, so it should be good.
We are having a buffet and a drink too - so i am going to have a very busy Afternoon preparing it all.

Blu · 05/11/2004 12:51

Going to the display in a local park with another MN-er!

Bunglie · 05/11/2004 12:55

I am going down to the beach (about 500 yards away) and going to watch them light the 'beach bonfire'...and then watch the firework display, set off from boats out in the bay...All the money collected is going this year to the local children's charities...I will also eat a bag of roasted chestnuts and drink hot chocolate...can't wait
