Book recommendations wanted for advanced reader

Went to dd's parents evening last night and was a little taken aback to be told that she had a reading age of almost 11 (she is 6 1/2). We knew that she was a good reader but weren't really aware of how far ahead she is. Problem we have is that whilst we don't want to buy her books which are too easy, we are concerned that books for her "reading' age may not always be entirely appropriate/suitable for a rising 7 yr old. We have already 'done' Roald Dahl and some of the classics such as Alice in Wonderland and The Secret Garden. Does anyone have any other recommendations please?

Everything by Joan Aiken! - starting with the Wolves of Willoughby Chase. I can't wait till I can read them to my children. I love reading everyone's suggestions. Bringing back really good memories!

Yorkiegirl - Are you wonderwoman? Two very little ones, demanding job, time to post on here and spare time to read books!

If you've a mo, I would very much welcome your comments on this thread

Productions - plural? That sounds like an undertaking! We've got the "Grumpy Shepherd" at school in a couple of weeks' time, and I know all the songs off by heart already!

I'm currently reading Eragon, which I'd completely forgotten about. Have you come across it? (written by a precocious Canadian teenager)

Definitely Anne of Green Gables. Also Little Women, What Katy did (plus sequels), The Hobbit. Also Noel Streatfield is great - I loved the 'Gemma' books at her age, and White Boots, Ballet Shoes, The Painted Garden.

I think I need to spend less time on here and more time reading, I have a stack of books by my bed, including three "children's books"

and - thank you Tamum - The Way the Crow Flies, which you recommended further down the page. Dh picked it up from the library for me, and almost denied all knowledge of it to the librarian, as he didn't think from the cover that it looked like 'my kind of book' at all!

So I'm off to bed now, to make a start
