Anyone know how I would go about finding a dead ancestor....all we know is the name, how he died and the year and city.

Have you applied for copy of birth/death certificate yet? If you know where and when he died you should be able to contact the local registry office.

Mercy · 19/11/2007 12:40

You could register with Ancestry.co.uk and look at the BMD index (as long as the death was post 1837) or have a look at the FreeBMD site.

I'm already registered and can have a look if you want.

That would be great...can I CAT you the details?

Of course!

Probably won't be around until after school now.

throckenholt · 19/11/2007 12:58

depends on the time really.

Either go down the BMD route mentioned by Mercy, or if it was likely to be in the newspaper at the time you could contact the local library to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Robin, I sent you an email earlier today but it has been bounced back. I'll try again via the cat service.

Probably not as good as ancestry.co.uk but you could try Genes Reunited as well.
