Seton sands is not very nice - my personal opinion. Beach is lovely but not the resort bit.

Demented · 02/11/2004 16:34

Is Haggerston Castle near Edinburgh somewhere? Not been personally but thought that was a Butlins type place.

nailpolish · 02/11/2004 16:36

hagg castle is hour and a half drive south of edin better than seton sands so is north berwick

Northerner · 02/11/2004 16:39

Seton Sands is closed anyway for the date I wanted.

Any more suggesstions? It needs to have conference facilities also.

Seton Sands is a (drab) caravan site (I grew up about 3 miles from there).

If you've got a bit of spare cash, I'd say go for either Peebles of Crieff Hydros. I can't think of anywhere that is anything like a holiday park.

Beat me to it! There's a caravan site at Roslin apparently, but I was also going to suggest Peebles Hydro as the best bet. There are lots of hotels with conference facilities in Edinburgh but they are all more upmarket than you are after by the sounds of it. I'll keep wracking my brains though!

As a child I always wanted to holiday at Seton Sands, you could see the swimming pool from the road, and I loved the beach there. Luckily my parents never indulged me. I still have rose coloured visions of that place

tamum · 02/11/2004 17:19

Deegward, I used to beg my parents to take us to Butlins. I had seen adverts about how the rides were free once you were there, and it always sounded like utter heaven to me. They never gave in though

nailpolish · 02/11/2004 17:20

northener more info req so we can think of places for you!

JuniperDewdrop · 02/11/2004 17:30

is this any use?

Just did a search on google, maybe someone on there can help?

deegward · 02/11/2004 17:33

It does seem such a shame, though doesn't it, or woudll our illusions have been shattered too early? Or maybe we would have enjoyed it!

nailpolish - I work in event management and need to find a venue for a client. It's a one day meeting for 250 people but it's a family day so partners and kids will be coming too. They originally wanted a hotel with leisure facilities so partners/kids could use the pool but as thre will be about 100 partners/kids it would cause major logistical problems for a hotel to have 100 non residents decending on the pool!

So I thought somewhere like a centre parcs would be ideal as it would be already geared up for these sort of numbers and they have conference facilities, but it's proving dificult to find.

that is difficult! i would be useless at your job. you have my admiration!

what about edinburgh zoo? they have conference facilities im sure they do

Ameriscot2004 · 04/11/2004 16:55

Try this place:

Quayside Musselburgh

It is both a conference centre and health club, which is right on the beach at Musselburgh. It's 5 miles from Edinburgh city centre, with excellent bus links.

deegward · 04/11/2004 17:12

Vote here for the zoo, or completely not at Edinburgh but Blair Drummond Safari park!

deegward · 04/11/2004 17:14

What about that fun/theme park at some castle, I know, I know not much help through the west. (I'm orig from Edinburgh so anywhere west of the Maybury is through the West!

prettybird · 04/11/2004 17:24

Another vote for Peebles Hydro. I'm sure it is geared up for the extra numbers.

cab · 04/11/2004 17:25

Would have thought Crieff Hydro could cope with that (there's 3 pools - one for adults only, a big toddler's pool and another big one for the kids.)
It has a big creche with various rooms for different ages, a soft play zone and lots of organized activities for older kids.
It's a bit run down/ old fashioned but plenty to offer with horses, tennis, sports halls, go-karting, golf etc.
Apart from hotel rooms there are also chalets and lodges.

cab · 04/11/2004 17:27

Another option would be one of the Next Generation Clubs which have conference and leisure facilities - but you would need a separate hotel for those staying over.

tamum · 04/11/2004 17:27

I'm with prettybird and cab- both Peebles and Crieff Hydros would be worth asking- they're both pretty huge.
