I know it's boring, but I want my washing to smell nice.. and now we have a new dryer I thought it would- but it doesn't.

So, do you use anything special in your wash/or dryer?

you could put some lavender oil in with the softner? I don't have a dryer so just hang mine.

HI!

i use tesco own brand tumble dryer sheets. they can be a bit strong for baby clothes tho, i use comfort ones for the baby stuff hth!

Northerner · 02/11/2004 14:10

I know what you mean Unicorn. I always notice taht other peoples clothes smell all nice and freshly laundered when mine don't. I put it down to the fact that I am so used to the smell of my detergant I don't really notice it but I bet other people do IYKWIM!!

nailpolish · 02/11/2004 14:10

ps this isnt boring, its one of my bugbears. i hate the winter cos you cant hang anything outside to get that outsidey smell

bakedpotato · 02/11/2004 14:11

persil non-bio liquid. don't bother with fabric softener. smells dreamy. never tumble though.

nailpolish · 02/11/2004 14:13

sorry its me again! i also use fairy non bio in thewashing machine i think it has the best smell ever

pinkpootle · 02/11/2004 14:15

use lenor downy softener - the blue stuff in the clear bottle, it's called easy iron now i think. i use it every now and then even on my nappies cos it doesn't affect the absorbency of towels/nappies like other fabric softener - and in winter, nappies can get very crunchy from being on the radiator

bakedpotato · 02/11/2004 14:17

nail polish, i don't get a smell off fairy non-b. jealous that you do. i can't remember how i slipped into using it, it must have been on special offer and i've got stuck.

must try persil non-b again. people used to comment on how i smelt like a summer meadow.

Angeliz · 02/11/2004 14:18

Are you sure you're not just immune to the smell as i think i am!
My mam and sister always say how lovely my washing smells and i can't smell a thing

unicorn · 02/11/2004 14:20

baked potato!! 'a summer meadow' wow!! I aspire to those lofty heights! ..More like a damp back garden at the moment!!
Thanks all..keep them coming...

unicorn try the comfort ones before bounce

you just can't beat the smell of clothes dried outdoors. shame the weather is not v. good at the moment!
I personally like my washing to smell of nothig and don't like deterget's smells at all (no matter what fragrance they are)
I use persil non-bio or tesco's own non-bio and nothing else. an extra rinse might help get rid of the smell too. but oince they dry outside they smell just fresh and clean.
don't have a dryer so don't know how would that affect the smell.
otherwise, there's an ironing water from L'Occitane, a bit pricey for what it is but smells divine and it's called Verbena. I hope I'm right, at least I know their Verbena range smells wonderful and I also know they sell ironing water so i figured it's possible. Can't rememebr it's been ages since I've seen it in a little shop, was shocked at the price and forgot all about it...

I don't use perfumed washing liquid, fabric softener or anything in the tumble dryer now that the sprog is here and I too am fed up of my laundry smelling of nothing .

When can you start using tumble dryer sheets again with baby stuff (it just goes in with our stuff) - 3 months?
