In a dilemma and probably worrying excessively.

Ds is 7 and although has swimming lessons every week I would not yet class him as a proper swimmer as still in learner pool. He has been invited to a pool party. Is in the main pool, depth of shallow end is 1m so up to his armpits/shoulder area. HE refuses to wear armbands as no-one else will.

I did call the pool to check if this was ok and they said its fine we will have lifeguards Like i want ds to need th eassistance of a lifeguard.

I am probably being overly protective but am worried.

Anyone's non swimming dc been to a pool party?

not much you could do if he is in trouble and you're not by the pool side to help, he will have plenty more parties to go to in future. Not worth the risk, but then again, if he's never been on a horse will you let him go to a horse riding party? Is it equally risky?

FUnnily enough since you first posted this dd1 has been invited to a pool party. She can't swim well and isn't confident without dh there. He's working that evening and I will have dd2 with me so dd1 just ain't going I'm afraid. Even if the ratio was good, I just wouldn't feel happy unless me or dh was with her.

i dont think she realises mmj, actually i dont think she has really thought any of it through. Spoke to dp and showed him thread (thanks again for all replies). Tried to speak to the woman today but missed eachother. I will say to her ds cant swim so only happy if i go in with him. Tbh i think it is the day dp comes back from Japan so might decline so that we are home to meet him.

Ds1 has been to pool parties, even before he could swim, but they were in the small pool. If he could swim 20m I would be happy for him to go in the big pool, but would probably stay and watch from the side. Could your child take a woggle (foam sausage thingy) so he always has a flotation aid, but it doesn't look like 'armbands' which I can understand someone not wanting to wear tbh!

As others have said, NO.
what does your ds think? Ours is now a reasonable swimmer but when he was still lacking in confidence the dilemma was resolved by him saying, no thanks, to this sort of invite
