URGENT! DS2 been sick twice this morning and there is blood in it!

Help! What do I do, is this normal? His sick is more or less clear (he was swimming last night, maybe sicking up swimming pool water???) with areas that are bloody.

I have no transport today but can possibly get a hold of DH in the next 10 mins but after that I've had it.

Anyone got any experience?

How dark/light is the blood?

Demented · 02/11/2004 09:00

It is dark red. DS2 is now sitting eating a bowl of weatabix as we speak and seems fairly chirpy (the weatabix was prepared before I realised he was ill).

No, but ring nhs direct and check with them. Don't remember number off hand - directory enquiries will tell you.

No experience, demented, but phone up your surgery and explain that you have no transport. This sound like it needs a GP. They will have someone on call out. Poor you things. Let us know how you get on.

I'm thinking it must be blood, although he did have tomato sauce with his dinner last night, does that go dark red in vomit?

Not trying to start a panic attack but the darker the blood the more serious it could be. If it was very light, might be worth leaving it for a bit but as it's dark i'd get him seen by someone fairly soon.

wobblyknicks · 02/11/2004 09:01

nhs direct is 08454647

I'll see if I can get a hold of DH, he has gone to the School with DS1 and should be there about 15 mins.

We're in Scotland, I don't think that NHS no works for us.

Am almost 100% certain that nhs direct will say go to gp or get an ambulance so you may as well save yourself the trouble and get a gp first.

School tracking DH down as we speak.

Now that I've got a minute to think (still waiting on DH getting in touch) just wanted to say, thanks everyone! Will post later with some news.

take care - hope everything turns out well. Lets hope it turns out to be ketchup or something, but I definitely think you must get this checked out. Good Luck

Just seen this Demented - can you phone your surgery and speak to a doctor? Havent had any experience of this, but would be happier to get it checked out sooner rather than later. Let me know if I can do anything. xxxx

strawberry · 02/11/2004 09:24

NHS direct book says call doctor and nothing to eat or drink. How is he now?

Demented · 02/11/2004 09:28

DH came home and I phoned the Dr, DS2 has an appointment at 11.10 this morning. DH unfortunately can't put off his job today (which is frustrating as he works from home and is generally available or the car is available at the drop of a hat) the surgery is walking distance (about 15 mins), I just hope he's not sick on the way though!

Glad you've got the appointment. let us know how things are later.

Demented · 02/11/2004 09:33

Thanks, I feel like such a fraud, DS2 very chripy and happy now, I suggested he I put the Muppet Show on and he gave me a big kiss on the cheek and ran away through to the livingroom. Although I will definately get it checked out, you can't be too careful with these things.

Just back from the Dr. DS2 vomited the weatabix all over me in the waiting room, rivers and rivers of brown sludge. After waiting ages the Dr finally saw us and doesn't think it is serious as he has now been sick four times and only the first two times with the blood (or what looks like blood) in it. He says perhaps he burst a blood vessel when he retched otherwise maybe it was tomato sauce, he said that the body may have processed the other food he had eaten at dinner time but held onto the tomato sauce for some reason. Anyway I've just to keep an eye on him and if there is any reoccurrance of the blood I've to try and take a sample for them to test (nice). DS2 is now sleeping on the sofa so hopefully he will feel a bit better once he wakes up.

Thanks again for all your help and concern.

Just seen this, I think you were right to get him checked Demented. Hope he (and you) get over it all soon.
