Got it all set up and am talking to lots of lovely mumsnetters, but do need a few questions answered as I go along if someone doesn't mind helping. I know you can press a "help" button in the program, but I don't always understand the answer .

If you send someone a message and they are offline, does it get to them when they come back online?

What about if someone is "away" or "busy"?

I don't think you can send a message to someone who is offline but you can send them to busy or away people. It just sits there flashing on their screen untl they notice it!

jampot · 01/11/2004 14:12

you cant send a message to someone who is "offline" but you can send an email which they will get when they log on. You can send a message to someone who is busy, away etc. In fact this is an excellent tool because if (like me) you are working and may want to respond to someone who msn's you then you can just change your status to "away" or "busy" or whatever. I may respond or I may not and you will never know if I am there or not

Great, I understand, thanks.

More questions later .

JP, if you have messenger Plus you can send a sort of offline message, what happens is if you are online when they log on, they will get it, if not it will send it when you are both online. It's called a comeback message.

I've done it to a mate and they have replied 3 days or even weeks later and I havent a clue what the question was by then

jampot · 01/11/2004 23:12

thanks RB - you are a hive of techno-knowledge.

New question .

Can you "set" msn chat boxes to come up in different places on your computer screen?

At the moment, if I open more than one box (cos 2 people are talking to me), one overlays the other and I get confused!

I know you can click and drag to move them, but just wondered about pre-setting them.

Hey Puff - are you trying to make me feel jealous? You were saying you had no-one to chat to before - now you are chatting to two at the same time!!!! Glad you are asking all these questions though, I am fairly new to it and am reading all the words of wisdom and learning something new all the time. Will manage to speak to you soon hopefully! xx

PuffTheMagicDragon · 02/11/2004 09:28

Yo! miam - hope to chat later .

I think they'll automatically overlap, Puff. I just rearrange/resize mine accorgingly

carla · 02/11/2004 09:54

OK. I think I've downloaded it - so where do I find it????

SoupDragon · 02/11/2004 09:55

Is there a little person in the bottom right corner of your screen next to the clock?

SoupDragon · 02/11/2004 09:57

Or try clicking the start button then "All Programmes" and look for MSN Messenger. It'll probably be near the end of the lost.

carla · 02/11/2004 10:00

Well it's all bu**ered up cos everything that used to be at the bottom is now on the rhside of the screen. And there's no clock.
