what if anything, can you do about it? my neighbour is running a business from his address, today there were seven cars parked up outside his house, along with another seven that he has provided off road parking for. we live down a narrow road, its very busy at times with heavy goods traffic.consequently, his staff park so far over onto the pavement i cannot pass with the pram and two toddlers. i have to walk them in the road to get passed the cars parked over the pavement.it really pi*s me off.
unfortunately we are not on good speaking terms so i feel i cannot approach him.

I thought parking on the pavement was a traffic offence.

Get onto the planning department and county highways. If he is running a business at home that generates this amount of traffic, he should have got planning and highways should have been consulted. If he's been naughty, you have got him over a barrel.

Apart from that, parking on the pavement is illegal, but I can't remember if it's the parking people or the police you want - call them and find out.

And leave notes on the windscreens. People may not have realised if they don't have children themselves, or know anyone who uses a wheelchair, quite how much trouble they are causing.

Oh, and you could always have a polite but firm word with him... he may not have realised quite how much disruption it is causing.

durr! Ignore me, had read your whole post but last line didn't sink in!

With our council, we can report it on-line. I believe it's illegal to park on the pavement or even have a wheel on it. I saw a traffic warden take a photo of a car parked like that. The driver got a ticket.

We have a similar thing. At the moment a house is having work and there are an extra 6 vehicles. Most of which are parked outside my drive on the opposite side on a narrow road, and it is hard for me to get on my own drive now. They are all on the pavement. Seems they think about their cars being away from others passing, and letting others go by, but they don't think about pavement users.

Apparently it's not specifically illegal to park on the pavement, although it may be against a local authority's bye-laws.
However it is illegal to drive on the pavement, so unless the car was dropped onto the pavement from a crane, the driver has broken the law....

a traffic warden once told me that actually parking on the pavement isn't illegal but if it causes an obstruction it is. ie if you can't get passed in a wheelchair (or with a buggy) i think you have to apply for some sort of special permission to have your business home-based if its generating that amount of traffic and i think in that instance the neighbours should be informed. I could be talking bollocks but this is all familiar for some reason.

ok. WE NEED A TRAFFIC WARDEN!! ANYONE??

IT is not illegal to park on the pavement but it is illegal to cause an obstruction with your car.

Phone the police when it happens again, if they attend (or a traffic warden)they can dob tickets on the car that are obstructing the pavement.

When you ring, be specific about the fact that you can't get past with your pushchair.
