In a packed Sainsbury's carpark this afternoon it seemd the only space left was a family space near the entrance. We had hoped for this space as we we had dd in the car. Anyway, two ladies pulled into the space ahead of us, obviously without children and not even a carseat in the car!!
I was cross and irritable especially because dd is sick this weekend. Anyway imagine my surprise when my 'wouldn't say boo toa goose' dh getts out of the car all fired up and angry, knocks on their window and say "Excuse me, where are your children? This is a family parking space. We need to get our baby out of the car!"
I was so proud.
Not that it did any good. They refused to move saying they were only popping in to get milk. As is that was a good enough excuse.
Why do people seem to be completely unable to understand why we need these spaces?

aww, bless him for trying! when i went to halfords last week, i saw a guy park into a disabled space and he was far from disabled! saw the same thing in tescos the one time ive actually managed to park in a family space out of the number of times ive been to tescos!

my dh would have gone ballistic if they had refused to move. he can be a little embarrassing actually. i think you're lucky your dh usually doesn't say anything .... i'm usually left with a red face after dh has tore a strip off someone (ranging from people like the space stealers to check out staff). he's a lovely man but very very intolerant and can come across as quite rude. bless him.

well done your dh!! This happens to us all the time. last week, except was a woman on her own. she had a carseat in car but no child it's these people that are really annoying as they know how it is with kids... oh well willl stop moaning on....

Pidge · 01/11/2004 14:23

Can't believe they refused to move - do they have no shame!

Well done your dh! Dp nearly got punched after he pointed out to some chap that him parking on double yellow lines on a corner, blocking the ramped entrance to the pavement meant we had to take our pushchair out into heavy traffic to get round his car.

How come one of them couldn't have gone in for the milk, while the other drove round the carpark then?

I'd have been livid. My dh regularly takes on disabled space nickkers, but then I do need those spaces (esp if on my own with ds).

Well done your dh!

The one time this happened to me I went in store to complain. They said there was nothing they could do. I said they could give me a pen & paper. They gave me a whole pad. I wrote lots of big signs saying "This car belongs to a very rude man" etc. etc. and stuck them under his wipers etc. The staff were impressed - they even held my baby so that I could get to work on his car. I was in luck - we both finished our shopping at the same time and I had the pleasure of watching him having to take the time to go round the car picking, and reading all my signs!

Wow fisil. I am really impressed!!

Fisil that's funny! Good idea though - tempted to pinch it next time it happens to me! I'm afraid I just go down the obstructive and petty route of leaving a trolley behind their car.
