....so i said i knew who to ask about them. That's right - it's you lot! - you lucky lucky people.

I have seen discussions about them quite a lot on here.

Her question is this - how often do you have to 'change' it?

She doesn't have a private toilet facility at work so would need to leave it in all day at work until she gets home. Is this possible?

Speak slowly now - i'm a guy remember.....

(And yes - she does see the funny side of getting advice via me about it)

theres mooncup site if that helps

laurliemonkey · 06/11/2007 00:15

im a bit noob to the mooncup, so if anyone contradicts me later, sorry, but it depends on how heavy the normal flow is.. but i can leave mine in longer than a tampon (sorry if this is tmi, btw). i wouldn't advise leaving it in all day, but rather cleaning it as best you can with toilet paper or prhaps a bottle of water, and then giving it a good clean at home

hope this helped

mammya · 06/11/2007 00:16

Hi EricL, well I do leave mine in all day and empty it when I get home, at about 7pm. On my "heaviest" days I empty it first thing in the morning, when I get back from work, and before bed. But it depends of course on how heavy her period is.

I can't believe I'm having this conversation with a man! Obviously would never do in RL...

AitchTwoOh · 06/11/2007 00:17

you just tip it out and give it a wipe with some loo roll. some people take a bottle of water into the loo and give it a bit of a slosh.

EricL · 06/11/2007 00:21

Well - if it helps i can be a woman for tonight only.

Call me Erica and imagine me with some narks and a banjo (or whatever you lot like to call them today...)

Anyway - thanks for the comments so far as i realise it is a little strange. As i'm sure you realise, i am used to talking about this kind of thing as it happens every bloody month........

Why can't she go to the loo at work, I don't understand that? As long as there is a cubicle, she's sorted! I presume there are cubicles provided for other bodily functions...

As to how long she can leave it in, we can't really advise on that, it really is how long's a piece of string. For example, sometimes I can indeed leave mine in all day, other times I have to empty it every hour and a half or so.

For emptying/cleaning at work, she just needs to do as others have suggested. I find the trick is to get yourself comfy on the loo and make sure you have a supply of loo roll or tissues handy before taking out the mooncup. That way you can clean the mooncup and yourself (not you obviously!) easily and without much mess. Then clean properly a couple of times a day in the comfort of your own home.

The other thing I would say about using public loos or loos at other people's homes is that if you just empty the contents of the mooncup, then flush, sometimes the blood doesn't always flush away and there is a bit left at the bottom of the loo. Some people find that a bit embarrassing, but you can avoid it by first chucking a few squares of loo paper down the loo, then emptying the mooncup on top of the paper. Paper absorbs the blood, quick flush and you're done with no evidence left!

As in a shared sink. She wants to do this kind of private stuff in a toilet cubicle.

If you can manage this kind of thing just in the cubicle then she is willing to give it a go.

Thanks porto - she just wanted to know if these things can be managed just in the cubicle - which it seems they can.
