Any seasoned car-booters out there?

Dh are doing a car boot sale tomorrow. The last time I did one was 10 years ago with my best friend and we ended up in hysterics as the manic car-booters practically climbed into the back of our car looking for bargains as we unpacked - it was terrifying!

Anyway, we're taking the plunge again and I want to sell a couple of big items: huge pushchair, pushalong tomy walker, some quite big pictures, etc. What kind of prices do I ask for? Are car boots rock-bottom prices or do people expect to be able to pay a 'reasonable' price? Could I ask say £30 for the pushchair (it's an AT Raider and cost about £300) and at least £5 for the pushalong or am I being deluded?

You're being deluded! We've done 2 car boots recently, like you, i couldnt believe the extent of others frantic burrowing into our things! We had brand new items still boxed and cellophaned, yet car booters turned their noses up at £1 price tag!! We've never met anyone who will pay reasonable price for anything!!

There are far too many people going to boot fairs these days, who only want to pay 50p sadly. The best idea is to start high and let them barter you down. You might be lucky. Is it a school one or big field one?

no £30 is fair, even good bargain price for a pushchair.

Missed it this week anyway - dh was ill (quite relieved not to have to face it really!) Some car-booters are completely insane and the bartering comments have reminded me. Me and ex did a car boot some years ago and he gave up when a woman wanted to barter him down for an ornament. He'd asked for 20p and she was adamant she was only going to pay 10!
