Are Child Tax Credits the same as Child Benefit?

Have just been on the Inland Revenue to see if we are entitled to anything other than Child Benefit and it has come up saying we are entitled to Child Tax Credit from the information i entered.

Is this just child benefit or is it something seperate?

completely separate. Child benefit is available to everyone. Tax credits are based on income...

all get child benefit regardless of income. separate application for child tax credit - should be able to help you at IR website - tell you where to get form etc.

It's different. Child benefit is what everyone gets regardless of income. Child tax credits are only for those who have an income below a certain level.

Cheers guys! Thought it was but didn't want to go and make a complete donut of myself.
IR website doesn't make it very clear for the likes of me who has been up half the night with a crying DD and ios now supposed to be looking after 4 kids - AARRGGGGGGGG!
