Am driving to Southampton on Saturday for first time. Need to go to John Lewis so am hoping to park at West Quay. Does it get very full, will I find a space easily (am very very bad at parking). Aim to arrive between 11 and 11:30am. Any advice gratefully received [hgrin].

LOL at you two fighting about Southampton... cod where do you live? Just general area don't want to stalk you.

Was going to get train on Sat so as not to bother with parking, but what happens if I want to BUY things? Will aim to get there in good time in car I think.

I will give verdict on Southampton after Saturday. I moved from London a few months ago and that's not pretty either, but I always liked it. Depends what you are used to as I drove back there a couple of weeks ago and realised how much prettier Winchester is, but I am London born and bred and so still love it.

Sorry, rambling .

Mr Heard was my consultant when I had my boys.

At one appointment I was so ill and he was so nice... only person to actually try to make me feel better, that I cried all over him.

...and my feelings about Southampton are the same as cods...sorry!!

awful place!

well i have lived here for 32 years and have to say there are some lovely parts of southampton. Love the common especially.

The train station is very close to west quay. Tbh you wont get to see much of Southampton. You will probably get to see all the building and shopping centres rather than the outskirts and common land.

Eve - did you ever meet Olujide. He is so lovely Have to say have liked all of them except i saw a female registrar and I dont think she had a clue. She told me being active in labour makes no difference at all

Am looking forward to seeing the lovely Mr H next week to tell him I have heard good things about him. I met him v briefly at end of 20 week scan, but he was only there 5 mins and I was lying on my back so couldn't really meet him properly!

Once my shopping trip is out of the way, I will make the effort in the future to check out Southampton and give my honest opinion on it. After Saturday I will just give my opinion on John Lewis, hot chocolate, West Quay and possibly the train station...

Romsey is a nice place to go.

Hmmm, well my mum came with me to Southampton, she hadn't been since she was 17 (is now in her 70s), and we went on the train. Nice easy journey, saw John Lewis from the train station so all straightforward, but the small bit we saw of Southampton did leave us both saying we wont be hurrying back. However, we only saw the train station and a bit of West Quay, which was very very crowded, and much too busy and noisy for a pregnant lady and an elderly lady. John Lewis was fab though, and sorted out my nursery list and then we went and ate cake and sipped hot choc. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Awen, my lovely midwife is from Romsey, I have never been, although driven down Romsey Road in Winchester a lot...

West quay is most definately not the place to go on a Saturday, even worse when pregnant or elderly. Is like a sea of lost souls.

Glad you enjoyed John Lewis tho, did you get your hot chocolate?

Egg · 05/11/2007 13:35

Yes we had hot choc, flapjack and brownie. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

We did both agree that we had not seen the best side to Southampton, so am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt .

Best place is the common, kids playing in the park and in the summer the paddling pools. Feeding ducks, bike rides and Hawthorn centre. Also a few nice pubs there too.
