Can someone give me some idea of how much this would cost

After a lovely guardian angel gave me some tiles for my bathroom i have decided that we really could do with a new bath.

The sink and toilet are both fine but the bath is very marked and just really grotty.

So how much should i be thinking of for a new one and how much to get it plumbed in.

Hi nutcracker, not sure about fitting costs but I know you can pick up complete bathroom suites for about £500 so if cost is a concern I suspect you could get a bath dead cheap.

I'm sure i've seen white bathroom suites for less than that, around 300 for the lot. then you'd have fitting on top.

Don't B&Q supply & fit?

wont the council do it nutty?

I had a quote the other day from a plumber, 3-400 pounds to replace the toilet, sink and bath, 100 to replace just the toilet, so I imagine a bath would be round 100 - 150 ish. Have a look in you local paper, I got a brand new bath for our old house for 50 pounds.

If you are just replacing the bath and it is going back in the same position, the fitting time should not be high,
say an hour to remove old could be 2 if bath is boxed in. Another 2 hours to replace with new and plumb. So 4 hours for the new bath to be usable. If you want it boxed in add another 4 hours plus decoration.
So 8 hours plus should see the job done, at say £20/hour £160 plus materials. Could go for a free standing bath, more cash but less fitting time..

Oooh thanks you lot.

Nik - It's not worth the hassle asking them, and if they did agree it would be classed as non urgent so would have to wait ages.

I'll try and get a couple of quotes i think, so i get a rough idea.

Nutcracker,
Watching a home improvement programe the other day, (sad person that i am!) They were doing a bathroom up, and the bath was really grotty and marked.
They used a product that they got from B&Q, it is 'like' a paint. It cost about £50! but the end results were brilliant!!
£50 is a lot cheaper than a what a new bath and plumber would cost i bet!!

SofiaAmes · 27/10/2004 21:18

You should be able to get a bath for under £200. Fitting depends on where you are, but replacing a bath is easy and shouldn't be too expensive.

Try looking in loot for a bath. Or at local bathstores for display models that they are selling off cheap.

misdee · 27/10/2004 21:22

u could re-coat the bath.

if you can find someone handy in your family to fit it it would be cheaper, i'd lend you my dad but he is cutting back on DIY (after fiting my lights of course lol).
