piano and keyboard are different though - for one the piano keys are weighted and the keyboard aren't so if she likesthe keyboard she may find the transition difficult.

plus keyboard is different to piano as you have the added features.

not saying it's a bad idea but that there is a transition iyswim.

My brother is a professional pianist and he has advised us to get a second hand piano when DD starts to learn, rather than a keyboard. Otherwise, she will have to unlearn the technique required by a keyboard.

We thought about this and have bought a fairly decent keyboard for dd after advice from the local music shop. It's good enough for her to get going on, and cost about £150, so mid price range. There are keyboards which are weighted like pianos (and don't do special effects either) and cost about £300 (but not good for us as we need it to be portable at the moment). Real pianos cost thousands of pounds, and getting cheap second hand ones (according to the shop anyway) can have high maintenence costs.
