Hiya,

Looking at buying my dc a few books from The Book People. Has anyone had any problems from them, and is it a "Book Club?"

Thanks

They are fabbo! Brilliant value for money and good service too. I would heartily recommend 'em!

We've recently moved to America, and they won't ship here. I keep seeing all their wonderful packages/offers, and would definitely order if I could.

Anyone know of a similar company based in America, or one that will ship to America?

WalkingCorpseScum · 28/10/2007 13:42

Another they are fab here. My mum has ordered from them for a while using the catalogue and I ordered from the net a few weeks ago, great, fast shipping and sooooooo cheap!

lizziemun · 28/10/2007 14:03

they are great, if not expensive or i have very little selfcontrol. I aways end up spending far more then i intend to .

Last christmas i bought the box set of Angelina Ballerina and saved £130.

peskipixie · 28/10/2007 14:23

earlybird - cant you get it shipped to a uk adress and then forward it on? there are ebay listings to do it from us to uk if you dont know anyone here

Just bought a lovely huge box of kids bday cards(far nicer than I normally buy)-work out at 43p a card!!!!! Going to let my lot choose their friends bday cards out of it. Also bought the Winnie the Witch set-lovely and a couple of other books we wanted at a fraction of the price. It was free postage and came with a free set of Xmas cards!!!!!! And I've built up some book points, nice lady on the phone too. Oh yes big fan here

Can I join the band wagon please? I love the book people. They are easy to order from and quick delivery.
I've been using them for years and years and never had a problem with them.

TheChickenLady · 28/10/2007 22:16

Love The Book People - dead cheap and reliable.

pipsqueak · 28/10/2007 22:20

fabberoonie - fantastic prices and great service

janeiteofthelivingdead · 28/10/2007 22:23

They are brill - my favourite internet store by miles. Totally reliable; the VIP club is good, as is the fact that you can collect points and then use them on free books. They just about always have free delivery offers if you spend a certain amount too.

wheelybug · 28/10/2007 22:24

ooh yes, I love the book people. Have managed to work it so a friend and my mum give me their orders so we always qualify for free p&p and I get their points ! I have already got an Angelina Ballerina boxset free for dd with my points.

The packs of books are great for children - have just got the vehicle one (amazing aeroplanes, tremendous tractors etc) - for about £10. Will do a lot of christmas and birthday pressies for not much money.

MrsWeasley · 28/10/2007 22:35

Last year I did my Mum an offer through them where every month they send her a nice Fiction book. She loves it and will read anything so it suits her!

hotcrossbunny · 28/10/2007 22:36

We had awful service last Christmas though...

Order months ahead - we ordered 6 weeks ahead of Christmas and our parcel arrived after New Year We emailled, spoke on the phone, wrote to head office. No apology

Great prices, rubbish service.

Niecie · 28/10/2007 22:40

I have bought from them before (last Christmas) and had no trouble at all. Great prices and good service as I remember it. I hope to use them again this year too.

I know a few people who buy their sets of books for something like 10 for £10 and use them as party bag gifts, one book per child. Better than a load of plastic tat.

MrsWeasley · 28/10/2007 22:43

oh gosh hotcrossbunny I am shocked. I always so loads of order in december and never had a problem. I even ordered on the last posting day for parcels, wasnt expecting it to arrive for xmas but it did.

catsmother · 28/10/2007 22:56

I've bought lots from them in the past too without any real problems. My main problem is stopping myself because although the individual book prices are great, a large bill for several books isn't quite so good. The only trouble I ever had was their website acting up on one occasion and doing strange things to my order and they sorted it over the phone no trouble.

popsycal · 29/10/2007 13:41

Ialways have super speedy delivery from them....

wheelybug · 29/10/2007 13:43

I agree Catsmother - I always seem to add a few more in so I get free postage. But, that said, they usually get used up for birthdays and christmas.

Red House have just caught on to my habit and have started sending me the catalogue. Seems slightly different - more individual books than packs and a few classics. Already just about to make my first order from them too (and I note it is free p&p on all orders - is this always or just because they are trying to reel me in??)

goingfor3 · 29/10/2007 13:46

I've never had any problems with service. The only problem s that dp's family buy alot of the childrens books form there so the girls end up having duplicates as we all choose the same boks.

popsycal · 29/10/2007 13:47

Just to add,....they have a very interesting policy about returning goods priced below a fiver....

;)

jezzemx · 29/10/2007 13:49

They're brilliant. Bought loads from them and have never had any probs.

nimnom · 29/10/2007 13:55

It's not a book club and I would highly recommend them. Very reliable and excellent value.

Shannaratiger · 29/10/2007 13:57

They sound brill. what is their web address please?

Mistymoo · 29/10/2007 14:04

They are excellent and also give you points to get free books. I just ordered some box sets and got a free book and cd set with the points I have been given.

wheelybug · 29/10/2007 14:11

Here you go misty www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001 &langId=100 . Sign up for the catalogue - if you're as sad as me, you get very excited when it plops through the door
