I had one when we lived in the UK - tax was very reasonable from memory and as petrol - so cheap. I did it for a longish commute - about 30 - 40 minutes driving on A roads as well as nipping about town - it was FAB FAB FAB> Would love another one but I need room for three car seats across the back seat!!

Very nippy to drive - mine was a little red one and I really really loved it.

We had one a few years ago when they first came out. Loved it to bits. Incredibly economical. Good warranty that covered everything but never had any problems with it. Amazing what we managed to cram into it. We used to go camping with 2 kids and a dog. People used to line up and watch us unload as they couldn't beleive what we managed to get into it. Fab little car. Tax was lower band then.

I've got one. I've had it for about 4 years now and it's great. I will be trading it in soon, though, because it's just too small. Both my DS play golf, and I can't fit the two of them and their clubs in. It has a TINY boot.

The tax is cheap - £120 a year, I think, and a tank of petrol costs £25 and lasts ages.

It's great to park too. The only downside is that it came bottom in a car safety report recently. I think it would just crumple and disintegrate in a crash.

If you buy it, you'll love it.

emsiewill · 25/10/2007 13:11

I've got one, it's our 2nd car, as it is way too small for going away with luggage for all 4 of us etc.

I love it, love the fact it's so small, easy to manoeuvre and economical petrol & tax wise. Ours is about 6 years old, although we've only had it a year, and seems to be going fine.

hi there, i was looking to buy one of these little matiz's, can anyone tell me if you can fit a maclaren buggy in the boot (quest). that's all i'm interested in as i have two children and i know they can fit in the back and i know its cheap as chips but haven't actually seen one in real life!! I'm going to travel 100miles on sunday to buy a really cheap one but thought i should check out this first!! Would be grateful for any help guys

preggersagain · 26/10/2007 11:17

i bought a zapp to throw in and out of my matiz but now my nanny has it and she can fit a bertini twin pram in it (chassis in 'boot'!! and seat unit on the front seat) you should be able to get a quest in somehow

cookiem · 26/10/2007 11:20

thanks for that, the quest is quite narrow but long, i should have really gone to see one before i committed to driving 100miles to buy one!! thanks for your input preggersagain! anyone else have anything to add to that at all?

preggersagain · 26/10/2007 11:46

its the biggest small car in the world!! i once fit me, nanny and three strapping 20-something yo rugby players in the back LONG story but soooo much fun at the time!!

cookiem · 26/10/2007 11:53

oh my word!! sounds like much more fun than fitting a buggy in the boot!!!!!

cookiem · 26/10/2007 12:06

i've just checked out the size of a zapp to a maclaren and the zapp is 69cm x 26cm x 26cm and the Quest is 104cm x 82cm x 34cm so its quite a bit bigger - looks like it wont fit hey??

allmytimeonmumsnet · 26/10/2007 13:27

We had quite a chunky 3 wheeler buggy. It wouldn't fit in the boot but did slot quite neatly behind the front seat which worked OK with a rear-facing car seat.

Skribble · 27/10/2007 20:34

I had one and I really liked it.

Rear doors so easier getting kids in and out of car seats.

Boot isn't too bad compared with other small cars as the back of the car is straight up and down.

Very nippy and economical in town.

Downsides...

The 800cc engine I had, struggled on long climbs on the motorway and used quite a bit of fuel but the ecomomy in towm made up for this.

People sort of ignore you on the road, don't let you out and always go in front of you, I had a grey one that seemed to make more invisable, go for a bright colour, but still don't expect anyone to let you out or take you too seriously .

fibernie · 27/10/2007 20:49

The boot is REALLY small. I've got a cossato comet buggy and it only just fits in the back. I have to put my shopping in the back seat if the buggy is in the boot.
I like the fact that it is cheap to run as I use it for work which means nipping around the city lots.
However, much preferred the Ford Ka, and Toyota Yaris I had before.

Skribble · 27/10/2007 20:51

True if I had the buggy in I had to arrange the shooping in the passenger footwell and rear seat.

Skribble · 27/10/2007 20:55

Remember the seats spilt 60/40 and can both fold forward for huge shopping trips without the kids .

harryruby · 27/10/2007 21:20

Thanks girls. Been to have a look at one,(well over priced),but was v.impressed with boot size! Skribble,my dp says i should get a grey/silver one,but i want an orange one! Men! he only wants a silver one so that when our other car is in the garage and he wants mine for nipping to asda etc,he wont feel like hes in a girls car!

Skribble · 27/10/2007 22:15

Oh get the orange one, tell DH it is for safety reasons so you don't get run off the road . See they will never mis you

Skribble · 27/10/2007 22:16

Tee hee sorry couldn't resist

singledadofthree · 27/10/2007 22:19

here was i thinking how full of wise words you are these days - a regular Master Yoda.
and now youve shattered the dream

Skribble · 27/10/2007 22:21

LOL I am practicing for when I get to help at the Citizens advice.

singledadofthree · 27/10/2007 22:24

i'll bring you a list

PillockOfTheCommunity · 27/10/2007 22:25

I have a Suzuki Alto, similar in size, only downside is that it only has 2 seats in tha back, but the big plus is that the tax costs just £35 a YEAR

cookiem · 02/11/2007 12:28

Hi guys, I got my Matiz at the weekend and gues what - my Macarlen fitted in the boot!! yeay!!! As someone said before, it does eat up a bit of juice on the motorway but that was probably because i was pushing the poor little 800cc engine to its max! I really didn't feel safe doing 80mph on the motorway!! he he!! thanks for all advice and help, anyone want any more advice about it just give me a shout

cheers

Cookiem
