Sky + - Did everyone receive a letter?

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:00

I'm a bit behind the times and i've just realised sky+ have withdrawn their £10 subscription charge. Before we got sky+ we had a cheaper package and instead of paying the fee for no additional channels we decided to pay a slightly higher subscription and get the movie channels. I've just spoken to Sky who tell me that a letter was sent out to all their Sky+ customers and adverts were placed on the television to make us all aware. I personally did not receive a letter (don't get the magazine) and didn't see any adverts. They also tell me they got no returned mail. Did anyone else NOT get the letter they tell me was sent to all their sky+ customers? I need to know it wasn't just me so that I can tell them so as I want a refund of the difference (£60)

Sorry but I did get the letter

sparklygothkat · 20/10/2007 22:03

eh, confused? £10 for what? I have a baby brain atm..

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:05

Sky used to charge £10 subscription fee for sky + if you did not have two premium channels, i.e. movies or sports so the choice was to pay £10 or pay for movies etc.

does anyone actually get a bill/statement from sky? I don't

sparklygothkat · 20/10/2007 22:06

oh yea, I paid for the movies.

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:08

So sparkly did you receive the letter saying that sky were withdrawing the £10 subscription, therefore you don't need to pay for movies anymore (unless you want to)

not sure tbh, I don't always open them, as they are adressed to DH.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/10/2007 22:13

Just checked with dh, and we have no recollection of receiving a letter. We also went for the movies option, so have been paying (and never have time to watch any movies!). We aren't always great at reading our post though, so we couldn't be 100% certain of not receiving it.

Silly to put adverts on tv though. One of the major advantages of Sky+ is that you don't need to see any adverts!

MerlinsBeard · 20/10/2007 22:15

i don't understand the OP.

you were supposed to pay £10 per month for sky+ ? instead chse to pay for movies but expected tobe told of a cancellation of subs even though you don't pay for subs you pay for movies?

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:15

I'm quite annoyed with sky as I'm thinking that they may have sent letters out, but only to the people who paid the £10 sub not the ones who took the movies/sport option. I'm going to write and complain because if we hadn't noticed a miniscule advert on a website we wouldn't have known and we rarely watch the moves cos they're so crap.

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 20/10/2007 22:17

babyblue, you chose movies over subs, your choice not theirs so not their fault really

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:18

you have understood correctly mumofmonsters. I think as a sky+ subscriber we should've been told about the withdrawal of the fee because we are sky+ subscribers who were given the option of upgrading their subscription to incorporate movies/sports or choosing the £10 fee for no additional channels. Sky said a letter was sent to all sky+ subscribers but none of my friends have had one.

OP posts:
babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:20

Yes I chose movies, but if they had informed me as a sky+ subscriber that they were getting rid of the fee I would've cancelled them straight away.

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:21

DH says 'if the underlying policy of a company changes, as a customer you should be told about it'.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 20/10/2007 22:21

Babyblue - dh has just checked and says that we could pay just £21 a month instead of the current £38 if we get rid of movies .

mom - loads of people figure they may as well pay a few extra quid and get movies rather than pay £10 a month for nothing visibly extra. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Sky to inform all Sky+ customers of a change in pricing to a service that they use, so that they can at all times pick the best package for themselves.

RustyBear · 20/10/2007 22:22

The way it worked, mumofmonsters, was that Sky+ cost £10 a month unless you subscribed to a premium channel, eg movies - if you did Sky+ was free. So some people subscribed to the movies & so got the Sky+ free - but now Sky+ is free anyway, they could drop the movies & still not have to pay anything extra. But babyblue didn't find out about this & has been paying the extra sub for some time.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 20/10/2007 22:24

We got the letter
We had chosen movies for the reasons that you say, and then we recd a letter saying that £10 sub withdrawn for Sky +, so we cancelled the movies.
Did it a few months or so ago, can't remember when exactly.

ChippyMinton · 20/10/2007 22:32

Get sports here, definately didn't get a letter about the sky+ We could've cancelled the sports bit for a couple of months over the summer if we'd known.

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 22:40

thats exactly the point I was making. We've been paying an extra £20 per month. I'm really annoyed so i'm writing to them. If anyone else wants to do the same, the address is:

Sky Subscribers Services Ltd
Customer Care Department
PO Box 99
Livingston
West Lothian
EH54 7PR

Can anyone tell me how I get Sky+ - can I just buy a sky+ box or does it have to be a proper installation from sky?

I have a normal sky subscription

babyblue2 · 20/10/2007 23:07

You can just buy a sky+ box and have someone install it for you but at the mo sky are doing it for £49 plus £30 installation feel. I don't know if you would get it cheaper anywhere else. You would just keep your normal subscription fee.

OP posts:
ScaryMonsterStories · 20/10/2007 23:14

I don't think you would get £30 installation elsewhere TBH, it is more than a 30min job (and I am assuming in excess of £60 per hour for this type of tradesman )

BTW we don't recall getting a letter - but don't always read the one that comes with the mag - and it doesn't bother us anyway as we watch movies (and DP watches sport).

ginnedupumpkin · 20/10/2007 23:21

We never got a letter either and we are Sky+ subscribers.

Doesn't surprise me. We've had nothing but trouble since we changed from Virgin to Sky.

As soon as our first year is up I'm changing back to Virgin.

softmusk · 21/10/2007 11:43

as a normal sky customer can i upgrade to a sky+ box and not pay any thing more a month just the cost of the box

babyblue2 · 21/10/2007 12:12

Just the cost of the box and the installation yes.
