Thinking of you Lisad123

Gallstones are horrible, I have never suffered myself but a very good friend of mine did.

Hope they get you sorted quickly.

Hope she feels better soon. I ended up in hospital with pancreatitis due to undiagnosed gallstones when dd2 was 2 months old. Because I was on cipro I couldn't breastfeed but the nurses got one of the maternity wing ones to come over to show me how to hand express and I pumped a bit (well about 4 times in 10 days as felt lousy). When the antibiotics were out of my system after a total of 12 days the baby went back to breastfeeding so it doesn't have to spell the end of it. Best wishes to them all.

Carmenere · 18/10/2007 09:50

Oh poor Lisa, this happened to me when dd was 4 months old, my mum had to formula feed her because I was doped up to the eyeballs. However it was totally necessary, the pain associated with gallstones is like nothing I had experienced before and it can be very serious if they are not dealt with.
I'm sure she will be fine but I do feel for her, the worst thing for me was being away from dd and I tormented the staff asking them when I could go home. At least she has her baby with her. that said hospitals are not the best places for little babies atm.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 18/10/2007 09:53

the hospital she is at is fine for cleaniness. dh spent a while in there and it was always clean and tidy.

just spoke to my mum, lisa is in a private room on gyne as she has the baby with her. she is having a scan done today to see what it is causing her paind, but i think they are pretty sure its gallstones.

will try and get up there this evening to see her, do you think she iwll be too out of it for magazines? she wasnt able to eat yesterday as was throwing up al lthe time, couldnt keep a thing down.

mishymoo · 18/10/2007 09:58

Hope she feels better soon. I know how she feels - I have had gall stones and in July had my gall bladder removed. This was the only way to prevent them coming back so I guess LisaD will be having keyhole surgery! Get well soon

Carmenere · 18/10/2007 10:01

Oh the poor thing, definitely bring her some magazines.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 18/10/2007 20:50

its def gallstones. she is going to have her gall bladder removed in a few months, but not now. has to follow low fat diet and is currently on anti biotics.

her dd has taken to the bottle ok, but lisa is quite upset at the fact she may not be able to get breastfeeding going again. i have advised to keep pumping. but will go to breastfeeding board to get advise for her as well.

Saturn74 · 18/10/2007 20:53

Sending her lots of 'get well soon' vibes

nappyaddict · 18/10/2007 21:22

is she still in hospital?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 18/10/2007 21:23

yes.

BabiesEverywhere · 19/10/2007 11:10

Get her to speak to the Maternity nurses...there are loads of alternative antibiotics for a breastfeeding gall stone patient.

I know as I had two emergency admissions due to gall stones and both times I was told to wean...both times I ignored them and insisted on the breastfeeding friendly drugs and on the whole they found things I could use. Though they did say I had to pump and dump milk on certain drugs when I didn't have too. I also got less effective pain relief but I coped.

I pumped all the time I could. But after an open surgery and being on morphine, I didn't pump for three days after not eating for seven days and I still had milk.

Give your friend access to a hand pump and a nice photo of her baby, it is much easier for her to express and get letdown if she can 'see' her child.

Wishing her the best of luck, it is horrible...I have lived thought it...my gall bladder was removed and it looks like I will be going back to hospital shortly with more related painful attacks and I face another fight to get breastfeeding friendly drugs...again

First admission DD was 4 months old, second just 6 months, now 14 months

BabiesEverywhere · 19/10/2007 11:23

BTW you can breastfeed on morphine just like CS women can, in fact it has less affect on older babies.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 19/10/2007 11:26

Get better soon Lisa x

callmeovercautious · 19/10/2007 11:28

Send her my Love, hope she is well soon.

callmeovercautious · 19/10/2007 11:31

Have just read she has lo with her - that is really good news! The NHS can get it right much of the time, as I am sure your family is more than aware of

BabiesEverywhere · 19/10/2007 13:35

I found this for me but hopefully it will help your friend too.
