What's the difference between New York Salsa and Spanish Salsa?

Anyone know? Just started lessons and didn't even realise there were different sorts. Apparently I'm doing the NY version.

Oh there are quite a few salsa-nuts on mn, you need Marslady and one of the Dads(can't remember which one though)

I really don't know... would one be the latinamerican version? New York full of Puerto Ricans and all that?

To be honest... I really don't think Salsa was originally linked to Spain (although possibly very popular there now). Salsa is a Latinamerican dance.
