Financial or insurance matters.

I've just been turned down by the 4th Solicitor who think I need an expert

There is a book called the Legal 500, and another called Chambers Guide to Solicitors (or something like that), they list the specialists in the different areas of law in the different parts of the country. They might help (they might both be available online too...)

jodee · 20/10/2004 18:29

Norton, have a look at the law society website, they should have a search function to help you.

Norton · 20/10/2004 18:30

Pollyanna - Thanks for the recommendation - I've looked up both of these on-line but as I'm in Norfolk I'm struggling a bit (as they seem to be London based) And also when I input Insurance I get Personnal Injury claim lawyers

Thanks again

Norton, an expert in what exactly? DH is a Corporate Commercial solicitor and may know someone.

Hulababy · 20/10/2004 18:37

DH is a lawyer so I asked him:

Apparantly there is a very good firm with that kind of expertise are Mills & Reeve. But they will be expensive by all accounts. Dh thinks they have offices in Norwich (and Cambridge).

Their website is here

Norton · 20/10/2004 18:44

Thanks Hulababy - they have refused me as they act for Royal & Sun Alliance

Bagpuss30 it's about a permanent health insurance claim (detailed on a thread entitled Financial Problems (or I hate Insurance companies) link? ) I don't know if that worked yet
Don't read it all it's very long......sorry

Whoopee I did a link

Mills & Reeve should be able to recommend someone for you though, even if they can't act for you. Most solicitors should be able to do this.

Ange8 · 20/10/2004 21:28

If you look at this bit of the Law Society's website, you can search for firms by location and specialism. I searched on Norfolk and Insurance, and there were quite a few results.

Freckle · 20/10/2004 22:09

This problem basically boils down to a contractual dispute, so the expertise you require is that of a litigation expert. Most firms should have someone who will help you. I suspect the ones you have approached simply don't want the work or doubt their ability to do the job.

Whereabouts are you?

prufrock · 20/10/2004 22:18

I know Eversheds have a very good department dealing with this sort of thing in Ipswich (mainly acting for the insurance companies but sure they do both sides). I will try and get more info for you tomorrow

pollyanna · 20/10/2004 22:24

My dh recommended Mills and Reeve too. Look at www.legal500.com - it does have an East Anglia section and there are a list of firms there listed under Norwich - Commercial Litigation. Eversheds is also recommended, but I think they would be expensive too. Otherwise there are several other firms listed - it may be worth giving some of them a call.

Norton · 20/10/2004 22:28

I keep getting referred to Eversheds - but they keep passing me on to firms dealing with medical claims...as Freckle says it is a contractual dispute so I'll phone them tomorrow and try to give them less info (initially)

Thanks Ange8 I've been copying down numbers from that...

Now Freckle has me thinking is it an Insurance problem or a contractual one...this has given me lots to look at....

jodee · 21/10/2004 00:20

Ahem, I did also mention the law society website ages ago, but never mind ...

Norton · 21/10/2004 09:51

Jodee, sorry I phrased that wrong - I was already copying numbers down from the time you gave me the reference....but I forgot to thank you sorry

Not to worry, Norton, hope it helped you.

jampot · 21/10/2004 15:01

Pinsent Curtis Biddle are also v good and have many specialist lawyers Pinsents and it looks like they've merged AGAIN!

prufrock · 21/10/2004 15:04

Norton - just spoken to my friend who works in a related field in your area. She suggested Rogers and Norton, Cozens-Hardy and Jewson, or Fosters, all in Norwich, who deal with this sort of thing. You should be able to get their details from the law society website

Norton · 21/10/2004 20:21

Thanks everyone I hoping to email a solicitor tonite with all the papers so she can look at it before our appt on monday

OP posts:
jampot · 21/10/2004 20:22

so did you find one?

Norton · 21/10/2004 21:46

Yep - TWO

one says if he can't help someone in the firm can and offered Legal Aid
the other says she can ask for advise if she's out of her depth and she charges £95 + VAT an hour

So who knows

OP posts:
jampot · 21/10/2004 22:54

if she's out of her depth I would say she don't specialise and definitely not for £95 ph - would think trainee/nq. Best of luck
