sorry notanotter-but tis true. They are very cute little things particularly the babies-but for some reason they give off an aroma that some "may find unpleasant"-too bloody right-it makes me wretch. Bring back the stingrays is what I say!

Those little white lumps are called tonsiliths and are basically all the crap from the back of your tongue which has collected in the crevices in your tonsils. I kept on gettting them and looked at my tonsils, saw a little white mark, for some reason decided to get a knitting needle and finger in my mouth and squeeze said tonsil. The amount of stuff and smell was so horrid - loads of decomposed food and saliva. I use a lot of mouth wash after that

Ghosty, glad you found it amusing

I was not amused that paricular morning, I can tell you.

bad farts+NBA hangover doth not a well Walrus make.

I have never been able to drink Newcastlke Brown after that morning, and, mercifully, no fart I have smelt since has ever matched up it.

The single worst thing I have ever smelt is burning dead animals on the way past a slaughterhouse when the wind was blowing a particular direction one day. At least that is what I assume it was. I almost vomitted myself and no smell has ever had that effect on me before or since, although the gorilla enclosure in Belfast zoo is pretty bad too!

Someone mentioned this before. We used to live in Montreal and when the ice storm hit in January 1998, the electricity went off for days. We took all the food out of the freezer, wrapped it in newspaper and stuck it in a cool box and stuck it outside as it was about minus 15.

Come April, the snow has melted and we smell death. I thought perhaps with the snow melting it was the dog shit from the dogs in the downstirs apartment.

But OH NO!!!! The cool box. Dh opened it and it was a mass of maggots- eughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
The worst thing was that as we were leaving to come back to the UK, the landlord was coming round with potential tenants!!! We opened all the windows, put on the fans and legged it!!!

It was GROSS.

argggghh MB why did you have to raise teh subject of beta mercaptoethanol???????? Actuall DTT is not great either.

The only plus is that you can blame the beta mercapto after a smelly fart (its a very rotten eggy smell....one thing the internet cannot convey)!!!!

ScaryMonsterStories · 15/10/2007 21:10

beta mercapto is used daily in my lab so my nose is pretty acustomed to it now....
