I have been given the pill Femulen today off my doctor, which she says to try for 3 months and then if it agrees with me to go for either an implant or an injection. Don't know any friends that have had these so am looking for pros and cons please.

Do NOT want anymore children thank you very much, but don't want to go the sterilisation route and dh is a bit squeamish on the snip.

i have got the implant, and i bleed all over the place, sometimes i can b on for a couple of weeks or a couple of days it varies. my friend had the injection and didnt have any periods, went to the docs about heartburn and was told she is 7months pregnant!!! they work differently for different people

I am on the injection now. I initially had it to try to stop my Migraines, which touchwood has worked!!! I renew every 13 weeks. It seems to be suiting me fine. I have had one slight period in the three months I have had the injection. My only gripe is it makes my appetite increase, and I have put a bit of weight on. Apart from that I'd recommend it.

I had the implant for about a year, it was excellent. The only thing was that the doctor had trouble removing it.

Hi Oliveo, I had the implant 'implanon' for 2 yrs - i had to get it removed for one main reason - pretty much on and off light bleeding foor the entire time, like shorti says too.... It was very light (not enough for a tampon - just a panty liner) but the constant not knowing when it was going to start or stop, usually for 2 weeks then a break of a few days then another 2 weeks on was really annoying. They told me to try it for at least a year to see if it calmed down but it never did.. Iwas lucky cos we decided to start ttc then anyway. Also whenit was removed I had an allergic reaction and ended up with a rash head to toe but it cleared up in a month...

HOWEVER, that said if you are fine without bleeding on the pill you've been given (if its progesterone only) then you'll be fine on the implanon too. I bled on the mini pill so it was stupid to have it put in really, good luck

I didn't bleed on the mini pill but am bleeding on implanon. Am very depressed to read about the constant bleeding other people are reporting, must prod dh to the drs ....
