What age did your little ones all start crawling and walking?

I have two who are 7 and 6 and little one of 8 months, he has only just learnt to sit up but still needs cushion in case he falls backwards and I worry that he is behind, although such a happy content baby. He hasn't started crawling yet which is what worries me the most.

I just cant remember with the other two, I must get their books out.

thanks for your help in advance

All kids are different, Jupiter, it'll just drive you mad if you start comparing what other babies can do.

FWIW my daughter was sitting up on her own at 5 months, crawling at 7 months and walking at 12 months. One of her friends the same age didn't sit up unassisted until she was 10 months, crawled at 15 months and walked at 18 months.

I wouldn't worry too much about it at the moment, development is such an individual thing. Just relax and enjoy him.

Jupiter - don't worry, they all do things at different rates don't they.

Mine sat up at 5-6m, crawled just after and then walked at about 10 months but I know that's quite early. Like Wigwambam, I had a friend whose baby could not sit up at all at 8 months and didn't walk till well over 18 months but HV were not concerned and he walks perfectly normally!

Jupiter, please don't worry. My DS who is now 3 didn't attempt to crawl until his first birthday (trying to get a balloon) and even then it was by dragging himself with his arms, action man style. I think he was about 13-14 months before he crawled properly and 17-18 months before he walked. My DD who is 11 months sat up around 6-7 months (but she was probably 9 months before I stopped putting the cushion behind her) and has been crawling for 3 weeks. I know everyone says it but they do all do everything at different rates!

DS could sit up on his own at 7.5 months, but needed cushions round him for a while. Started crawling at 8.5 months and pulling himself up around 9 months. He's now nearly 11 months and crawls like a mad thing, pulls himself and cruises but can't stand up on his own yet.

Ahem, DS crawled at 6, sat unaided around 8.5m, walked at 9...
BUT We know a little girl who could barely sit unaided at 10 months, first crawled on her first birthday, didn't walk until 18 months. Honestly, by the time she was 2-3yo you couldn't see any difference between her & any other little girl.

oh thank you so much for all your comments, that has made me feel so much better, I think I will sit back now and just enjoy each moment and stage as it comes and stop wishing his little life away waiting for things to happen. They will happen in their own time.

Thank you!!!!!!!!

I wont feel such an idiot now going to the health visitor and asking her the same question, there will be no need!

DD sat unaided at 17 weeks, and was cruising with support from 5 months. She walked at 10 months.

However she didn't crawl at all until she was 8 and half months, and was not interested at all. Even when she could crawl she refered not too.

throckenholt · 18/10/2004 08:51

mine first sat up about 6 months, next 2 were about 7-8 months. All crawled at 9-10 months, and walked at 12-13 months.

Friends children have all done these both earlier and later (latest probably - sitting 10 months, crawling - 18 months, walking 21 months).

Jupiter,

My dd sat at 5 months, only started bottom shuffling at 11 months and now at 13 months is not too interested in standing, let along cruising/walking. Doctors told me not to worry, sitting is by far the most important gross motor skill and as long as they can do this unassisted by 10 months then they are generally not worried...
