Nightlight YES or NO??

Ds who is now 4 has always slept in a darkened room but lately has started standing on things to switch his main light on when he goes to bed. He often opens his curtains too so the street light can shine in. I think it is time to get him a novelty night light for his wall as long as he knows it is not to be left on all night. Dh is adamant he should not have one.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If he can turn the big light on, it would make sewnse to just get him a little one

maybe one that switches itself off after a certain length of time? i like having one so dd can find her favourite bunny if she wakes up and also if i need to go in for any reason i dont have to scrabble about in the dark or put the light on. hth?

littlerach I agree - seems logical to me too. Didn't know you could get timed ones that sounds like a good idea.

My 5 year old doesn't have one in her room, but there's one in the bathroom which is right next to her room. Just so that she can see if she needs to go to the bathroom or even come into my room in the night. I wouldn't want her to have one in her room though. Can you put one in the hallway?

We have a window in the hallway and the house next door leaves their light on all night so that shines into our hallway and therefore we don't need a light in the hall. We close his bedroom door at night so that light doesn't shine into his room.

DS who is 2.5 has a tiny Dalmation one that plugs in to the switch near his bed. I didnt want him to have one but DH insisted and he has been fine with it. It isnt a lamp just a tiny light and doesnt disturb him at all. His room would be pitch black otherwise and if he got up in the night then he wouldnt see a thing.

We have a mothercare dawn until dusk (£8) plugged in in the hallway which is fab. There's just enough to see what you're doing and not enough to keep you awake iyswim! It's also good for keeping the monsters away .

Think that should be dusk until dawn actually!!

he's obviously more comfortable with a little light in the room - don't see the problem with letting him have a night light.
