I have been saving up some money and want to go away for a weekend after this baby is born.
Can be pretty much anywhere in the uk but it MUST be super child-friendly hotel and maybe some interesting places to go to nearby.
Not looking for kids activity club type thingies, just somewhere that's happy to have children and will provide all I need etc etc.
any thoughts?

When is your baby due?
you might want to wait until it's born and then decide or leave it until you're getting some sleep. What do you have in mind when you say child-friendly?

fingerwoman · 03/10/2007 21:03

baby is due at the end of this month. thinking of going around the beginning of december, so won't be straight away.

child-friendly I just mean things like cots and a bed for ds readily available in our room, child-friendly restaurant so we can all eat together.
Loving scareybee's links where the hotels have play areas but you don't have to chuck them into a creche to use it iyswim? just stuff for ds to do.

The Luxury Family Hotels and Calcot Manor all have creches but without the slightest feeling that you have to use them. Both Calcot and Woolley Grange are happy for you to use the creche facilities whilst you stay with your child if you want to. Babington is also meant to be child friendly, but not exactly cheap.

Fowey hall is part of that luxury family hotels group.
Wh had a great time ther.

We stayed at the Hotel Continental in Whitstable last year - it was very child-friendly.

have seen Four Seasons Hampshire reviewed as child friendly - never been though. Can vouch for Babington as great for adults and kids - little creche place, and relaxed eating set ups. Family rooms well kitted out. Great grounds, pools etc. Babysitting. But it's not cheap!

Another vote for Bedruthan Steps - we went five times when our older children were younger (doesn't really work with large families, unfortunately).

Jura, have you been to Old Pines recently? We went about 7 years ago and were seriously unimpressed- lovely location and food but not child-friendly as I would define it. I'd be interested to know if it's improved as I'd love to go back to that area.

Old Ship Hotel in Brighton is nice and have stayed there several times with children: linky thing

Tamum · 05/10/2007 18:19

Oh, so it must have been the same owners. I think one of our problems was the absolute (at the time, anyway) insistence on the children eating with the owners' children, with only one dish on the menu and no parents allowed in with them. Luckily dd was so little they let me in to sit with her, but ds, even though he was 6, would have been utterly miserable if I hadn't been allowed in. The playroom was horribly smelly and full of broken toys, too, but as long as the weather was nice that wasn't really an issue. And the food was absolutely wonderful. I would be interested to know what it's like since the new owners took over.

Thurlestone Hotel, Thurlestone, Devon. To get away from it all. V. child friendly. Good beaches nearby. Good pubs.

yogimum · 05/10/2007 19:10

bedruthan steps is great and provides everything for children. Lovely indoor pool and had a great facial and massage in the spa. lovely walks on the beach and we took ds to newquay zoo.
