sounds like a ridiculous question but :

I know this probably sounds ridiculous but can anybody help at all. Just bought a bed for my 2 yr dd and am about to buy a duvet set. The one she has now is a 2.5tog which fits the cot she has now. Looking in the mothercare book for single duvets and they are a 10.5 tog. Do you think this is right? Just worrying I suppose as ours is a 10.5. Thanks.

my eldest 2 have got a 6 tog one. 10.5 tog i would have thought, would be too much for a young child.

WigWamBam · 15/10/2004 13:38

I think so too, Titania. My daughter has a 4 tog one for summer and I have just got her a 7.5 tog one for winter - as recommended by my health visitor many moons ago.

Thanks Titania! thats helpful - I shall have alook around for one.

She'll be fine! Have you got a bedrail for her, that will help.

I was told by the very helpful man in John Lewis that for DS, who was 2 and a half at the time, 4 tog was more than enough. He is still using the 4 tog duvet now, 9 months later and in the colder months and he's still warm enough as far as I can tell and that's with his room temperature at about 17.

doziduck · 15/10/2004 14:44

so i must be really cooking my 5yr old with a 12 tog! Hadn't really thought about it. I assumed they could have the same as us at this age.

What I don't understand though, is why have Dh and I got a 10 tog and 3yo ds is only 'allowed' a 4. Surely if we feel the cold, so do they?

WigWamBam · 15/10/2004 20:50

Kids overheat a lot quicker than we do, I think

madgirl · 15/10/2004 21:10

blimey i feel terrible i got ds1's at the local market when he went into a bed (2.2yrs) and didn't even consider tog- no idea at all what it is

happymumxxx · 16/10/2004 13:15

Thanks everone! Just like to say I bought a 7.5 allergy reducer one yesterday with a 4.5 tog attached for the summer. So tonight is the night.
Furball I felt confused as we have a 10.5 and dd has been having a 2.5t for her cot as stated in the mothercare book. That must just be for babies I guess.Dont you be worrying - You must have made a good choice otherwise your ds would most deffinitely let you know - No wonder my dd has been keeping me awake on and off in the night(not to tonight though)

How odd. DS (4yo) was sleeping under about 16 tog last winter. Anything less & he got way 2 cold. Past few weeks he's been under a 13, I think. 3yo DD is under 5-10 quite happily. Maybe we keep our house pretty cool, though. Do U all have heating on most the time?
