I have insurance with the Coop and needed to make a claim after a leak. The company that needs to sign off on acceptable humidity levels before any repair work can begin have advised that the leak will require removal of wooden floor boards. My problem is that the Coop have stated that no matching is allowed in the policy so have only agreed to change the floor in the room affected even though the wooden flooring flows uninterrupted into other rooms with no door bars. When I first logged the claim, before we knew flooring would need to be changed, the Coop has warned me that under the policy there is no matching. When I mentioned friends having their whole floor replaced, I was told that flooring may be an exception especially if there are no door bars. However, the Coop is now firmly standing by their position to only replace the affected room, irrespective of what that employee may have said.
I have spent hours looking online for a similar flooring but to no avail and the company I purchased it from no longer do this. Although I am escalating to the ombundsman, I’m not too hopeful as in my experience they often come on the side of the insurer with very little investigation. So now I’m in a dilemma:
1- do I replace only the affected room and make my home look funny?
2- do I replace the rest of my rooms at my own cost? (Not ideal given that I will shortly be out of a job and need to economise)
3- do I do nothing and leave the floor as it is, and hope that there won’t be too much damage from any dampness under the floor boards?
What would you do?
