Wacky Warehouse - Why Do They Want My Address?!

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 18:50

Went to Wacky Warehouse today for the first time since ds2 was born. They now want to know my postcode AND housenumber before admitting us (for a cash transaction... not confirming ID for a credit card transaction!). I was distracted at the time (dses being whiney) otherwise I'd have called them on it, but WHY do they need to know this info?!

Seems extremely dodgy to me.

irritating mailing list?

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 18:52

They better not do because I'll be fuming. Especially as the receipt I got said that I'd opted out of mailing (unfortunately you have to return the receipt when you leave now - very very weird system).

Agree - prob a mailing list or customer survey - but they should tell you why they want it (Data Protection Act & all that)

codswallop · 13/10/2004 19:00

samw with the brewsters near here

Hulababy · 13/10/2004 19:16

They do that round here too and it annoys me. Until recent our postcode never appeared on their lists, which caused no end of problems!

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 19:18

Well I'm feeling in a complaining mood so have sent a complaint in to their head office ({http://www.thespiritgroup.com/\The Spirit Group} if anyone is interested - use the contact us button).

I've also fired off a complaint to Sainsburys today about their delivery service... must be in fussy cow mode or something

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 19:19

oops ... try The Spirit Group

libb · 13/10/2004 19:32

Georgina, whilst in bolshy mode can you send yet another to Tescos on my behalf - have ranted so much it is leaving a horrible taste in my mouth!

whizzz · 13/10/2004 19:35

Oh I love a good rant. Good on you for complaining GeorginaA !!

SoupDragon · 13/10/2004 19:35

I've had no mailings from them in the year (at least) they've had this system in place at our local WW.

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 19:35

ooo ... what's happened with Tescos, libb?

GeorginaA · 13/10/2004 19:42

Bloomin heck that was quick - just got a response from Sainsburys with an apology and a 10 quid voucher!!!

See ladies, it pays to complain!

OP posts:
whizzz · 13/10/2004 20:00

WOW - quick lets all email Sainsburys !!

Moomin · 15/10/2004 08:31

I feel bad about complaining when tescos or sainsburys don't deliver on time these days. My FIL worked as a delivery man for a short time and gave it up because of the enormous pressure they put onto the delivery people. They have a huge number of deliveries to make in very short time spans and often allowances for bad traffic or weather is not taken into account. I know it's really annoying when the stuff doesn't get there when you want but it's rarely the delivery person's fault - it's the company that are to blame, but the delivery people get bollocked.

another example of the fat cat supermarkets trying to make out they're nice family businesses when really all they care about is profit.

GeorginaA · 15/10/2004 09:01

Oh I didn't complain about that. I complained about their policy to pay you a £10 voucher if they're a second late, but the way our store gets around it is to phone you earlier in the day and ask if you will accept an early delivery (and no renumeration for early delivery). This has happened 3 weeks in a row now.

Having a delivery an hour earlier than planned is actually a big deal for me (kids not yet in bed, trying to make dinner, dh not around to help unpack) so my point was that having an early delivery can be just as inconvenient as a late one and they should also give us vouchers for that. The computer system shouldn't offer that delivery slot if they already have too many deliveries to make at that time.

I'm with Soupy I've been to Wackys etc and had no mailing from them, I'm hoping that Wacky's can see where people are travelling from and as my nearest is 7 miles away and there isnt one in my town that they may consider putting one.

I'm with you G on the time slots, I ordered pizza online and put my time slot for 8pm as DH wasnt gonna be home till at least 7.30pm, I ordered at 5.55pm and the pizza was delivered to me at 6.10, not bad service, but I had to send him away with a copy of my email, stating exact time, and phoned and complained and the bloke said couldnt I just have accepted it, so I politely told him my reasons for booking at 8pm, etc when I order came my pizza's had been upgraded, so instead of small I had medium at no extra cost, pointless as we only wanted small, but the thought was there.

GeorginaA · 15/10/2004 21:28

Well a friend of mine has just told me to tell them my address is SW1A 1AA in future (Buckingham Palace!)

Erk, yes I can see how that pizza delivery was less than helpful... you wonder why they bother with a specify delivery time option, don't you?!

it doesn't pay to complain to my Tescos - they refund the loss (ie, the last one was £1.24) and a pathetic covers all excuses reason for the cock up. I wouldn't shop with them if it weren't for the fact they still work out cheaper . . .

I miss my Asda on-line shop in Cambridge - they were great, if anything was wrong they would nip over within two hours, correct the mistake and replace all the wrong items and give you a bunch of flowers as well. I once ordered 12 eggs and 5 were broken when delivered so they came round, replaced the original pack and gave me another pack of 12 free and some flowers . . . we ate omelettes for at least a week - but the thought was the important thing.
