coddy - what about a post office set?

tamum · 13/10/2004 18:04

Agree with Polly Pocket (aka Fashion Polly), or Hama beads, or Clickit? If you go to Woollies they always seem to have nice baby dolls in litlle baskets that are really cheap, I'm sure that would go down well

i bought this for an 8 yr old recently, but because it has a free cd of the stories, it doesn't have to be read to a child all the time.

The Barefoot Book of Princesses
This warm and humorous collection includes much-loved favourites such as?The Princess and the Pea?from Denmark and less familiar figures, among them ?The Beggar Princess? from China and ?The Horned Snake?s Wife? from the Iroquois of North America. Caitlin Matthews? wonderfully dramatic retellings are perfect for reading aloud, while Olwyn Whelan?s bright and witty illustrations are a feast in themselves.
Read Together: 5-10. Read Alone: 7-10

Paperback

girly pads and pens with pencils with pink feathers on!!! my dd is always chuffed with those. Also, any soft cuddly toy or any animal hospital stuff seems popular at the moment....

bundle · 13/10/2004 18:06

anything from claire's accessories always goes down well

Ask the mum; we're getting a basic top (shirt) 4 a little girl who's going 2 be 5, after the mum was moaning 2 me that she had little 2 wear after school/out of uniform. Mum also showed me a cabinet full of gifts untouched from the girl's party last year.

codswallop · 13/10/2004 18:14

Jools oh no please! watch it! almost mentioned the B word.

bundle · 13/10/2004 18:15

I'm not being contentious here, but I did rather like my post office kit when i was a wee one

pollyanna · 13/10/2004 18:20

There are these really good books (my dd aged 4 thinks so anyway) about fairies - there are about 8 books in the series - I think they are called rainbow fairies.

alexsmum · 13/10/2004 18:23

thanks for the suggestions, like the idea of the books and the pens and pencils...keep em coming!

Bump!

I'd like this advice too as I've only got ds's and ds1 is going to a girl's birthday party -she'll be 4 but I guess the gift ideas would be similar.

Help please!

My 5yo niece has just asked to to get her, for Christmas, Hama Beads. Apparantly these are really popular amongst her friends.

Also things to do with fairies and princesses - wands, tiaras, dress up stuff.

Skate · 17/10/2004 12:39

Hulababy - what are Hama beads and do you know where I can get them?? Ta!

tamum · 17/10/2004 12:44

Skate, if you go here and type in Hama you will get loads. They sell them in a lot of department store toy sections, and at some independent toy shops. Ikea used to do their own version, though I'm not sure if they still do.

Another one I wanted to add to this thread is Sylvanian Families. They are always popular, and you can get mini sets for about a fiver.

Flip · 17/10/2004 12:47

Have a look at this book. I didn't get mine from Amazon, I think it was a book club. It's an excellent book and I love it as well as the kids.

tinyganghq · 17/10/2004 13:23

Agree with Bundle about Claire's Accessories. If the birthday girl is going to be 5 then anything pink, fluffy and sparkly should do the job (if my dd is anything to go by) Don't know what you ds will think of that though - probably 'what a strange taste in presents!'

binkie · 17/10/2004 14:31

Speaking as mother of a dd (nearly 4) the simple pretty top idea is really a good one - for her 3rd two of her nursery-mates gave her those - a paisley print T-shirt from Gap and a long-sleeved thing with a silver princess print from Woolies - and she wore and wore them.

Hulababy · 17/10/2004 21:06

Skate - my DD is only 2 so I don't really know; just know that it is one of the options (top one) sent to me from my 5yo cousin.
