I live in am old building with thick walls and at one part of my house the Internet doesn't work atall.

Can you recommend a good Internet extender please? Hopefully one that isn't too expensive Smile

Hi we have the by home hub in our house, it's about £80 for 2 disks, we have a 3 story house and have four disks and no issues with the internet x

Friend of mine just got a set of these and says they're great, covers the whole house which was half dead spots before and dead easy to get working:

If you have really thick walls you could try a wireless powerline system. Plug one into a socket by your hub and connect it via ethernet, plug the other in a plug at the far end of your house. The wireless signal signal will Travel via your home’s electrical wiring and then be broadcast via wifi at the far end.

I'd go mesh WiFi.

Bt is good, but not the cheapest. I've heard good things about the tenda nova mw3 and mw6.

Avoid cheap wireless 'extenders' they kill the bandwidth on the whole network

We have these and after lots of issues with inconsistent speeds these have been great. No problems since and made our internet much more reliable.

Just done this. I bought power line instead of extenders, which we're rubbish. What I have learned is :

WiFi boosters take the already weak signal and spread it around. So if the signal is already shite it will not work well

Power line pushes the signal down the power lines (plug sockets ) in the house. As long as you aware in the same ring main they work well and don't care if fat walls are in the way. I got these for £30 from currys. x
TP-LINK - TL-PA4010 Powerline Adapter Kit - AV600, Twin Pack

A more expensive option is Mesh , where you plug in a thing into the wall that creates a mini WiFi all of its own. It's a bit more expensive but works well in dead spots in your house.

It's a bloody minefield but my power line is working well in my office that is 30 meters and 2 fat walls away from the WiFi box!

Hope this helps.

We’ve got Google home mesh WiFi which works very well in our thick walled 3 storey old house. Extremely easy to set up and is controlled via an app so you can set schedules for the kids devices etc. Wifi extenders were a waste of time. Google home was expensive but was the best option a few years ago when we got it, I think there’s more choice now.

A Linksys system was the only thing that worked for us. Not cheap but deals do come up from time to time and it WORKS Smile. To be fair we had to buy a few of them because we have an old house/thick walls/more than 2 storeys so that increased the cost.

What no broad band provider tells you upfront is that they're only contracting to get the signal into your house, whether or not it works inside isn't their problem, apparently. Also all the speeds/coverage stats assume that you live in a 3/4 bed semi or terrace and that the router is in the middle of your house, downstairs. If not...
Also (and depending on your house size/construction) if you have a HIVE heating control you can boost the wifi signal by using their lightbulbs etc.

We have these bt hubs but our internet is provided by virgin we just brought the disks that are in the link above. You can use them with any provider, we too have thick walls as house was built in 1905 x
