More Unusual Christmas Presents

Here's an idea for the person who appreciates something unusual, for the people who have everything and the terminally difficult to buy for. Also shares a bit of the CHristmas spirit to those who don't get much of it!

I'm getting my MIL a goat!

What a fantastic idea. Fancy a brood of chickens for best friend

There was a similar thread a few days ago. Last year I bought several people "presents" from Heifer International . I think it's a great idea and I would be very touched if someone did something like that for me.

Aero · 10/10/2004 15:27

World Vision also do something similar. I'm sure someone can do a link!

TraceyP · 10/10/2004 16:25

Oh, I wish I were brave enough to get my MIL a goat ... .

I think this is a great idea, thanks for the link susanmt

World Vision do do it as well but I thought more people here would be happier with the non-religious nature of Oxfam as an organisation to support.

I'm trying to think which of these things I will get for a couple of other people - want to get someone the brood of chickens as well as getting the goat!

World Vision's catalogue . When Rhubarb's DS was christened I gave him immunising another baby as a present...there is such a huge choice.

I know what you mean, susan, but they do do a great job, and also have expanded their gift list a lot this year so there lots of potential community gifts (eg from school fundraising).

JanH · 10/10/2004 22:29

This page shows all the gifts at once, from £5 to £4,800.

good link janh, i may buy teachers' pressies from there this year and also for one or two others.

Aero · 10/10/2004 23:22

Cheers janh - I knew someone would be able to do it. I really like the immunising another child gift. Great ideas for teachers presents too - a fiver well spent IMO

I love this idea - am also thinking of a goat for my brother, who got a marmoset (at London Zoo) for his birthday. OUt of interest - what does the recipient actually get? With the marmoset, he got a picture and I think it writes, periodically, to him, to tell him how he's getting on. What a clever monkey

According to the home page it says:
Every gift from a £5 mosquito net to a £2,500 borehole will make your friends and family smile. Make your choice and we'll send you a gift card and certificate to give to your friend or relative. Alternatively we can send the gift card and certificate with a personalised message directly to your gift recipient.

I am so glad I came across this thread, I think it is an absolutely wonderful idea. Even small value gifts are good for stocking presents aswell ... I will certainly be using the World Vision and Oxfam site from now on.
