Are you scared of dying?
What do you think happens when you die?

Agree with @Aquamarine1029, far worse. I think you just switch off so you wouldn't know you're dead. The actual dying bit probably wouldn't be nice, I hope to slip off in my sleep once I've reached a ripe old age. I don't fancy the concept of heaven, it sounds dull and I don't want to waste my actual life in churches trying to get in. I'd rather have as long as I've got now doing good and enjoying it for as long as I can. If I fall off my perch earlier than I'd like then so be it.

I’m scared of the ones I love dying and being left with that pain. I have already lost DD2 and five years down the line there are still some days the pain knocks me off my feet.
Actual dying myself, I only worry about the pain I’ll leave behind for others. I nearly died as a child and had an out of body experience. It was calm and light and peaceful.
To all of those nearing the end of life and waiting for their next big adventure Flowers

No I'm not afraid of dying. I've been told that my life has been shortened due to illness by 10 to 15 years, so if I'm due to go at 80, it could be 65 or 70, (or sooner) I'm just shy of 50 now.

At the backend of 2018 I had a mini stroke and for a very short while thought I was dying. Thinking about it after I wasn't at all frightened, I just felt very sad that if I had gone, I would never see my wife and 2 boys again.

Thank you for your comments, it's interesting to read, you all have a calm outlook. Sometimes.i have this panic of not existing, then other times it doesn't make me worry. No one talks about it. When my mum died as a child, I used to think she was still around. Now I'm 29, I'm seeing things differently. X

IHateCoronaVirus- how devastating to lose a child,
I'm so sorry.

Someone, it sounds like you are struggling with losing your mum; this lockdown seems to magnify grief for many people. Is it worth looking into online counselling? Or even just having a good talk with someone about your memories of her?

I quite enjoy living
I'm happy with the idea of being dead (I live alone and my kids are adult and independent)

The process of transition is the bit that concerns me though.

And I don't want to end my time in a care home. I've potentially many healthy years ahead (I'm 65 but both parents lived into their 90s and mums 3 sisters did too) but I'd rather die today than live another 15/20/25 healthy years at home and then 10 in a care home or even 2 in a care home.

Death now would be preferable to even 1 year in a care home 30 years hence.

I hope it's true that the brain fires off beautiful images though- I'd love to see myself running towards my dad as he rounded the street corner coming home from work, like when I was a little girl

Oh BoF - what an absolutely beautiful image Flowers

Id have a sit down and a catch up over a few beers with my best mate. I really do miss him.

No I am not scared of dying as I believe in an afterlife. I am scared that it might be a horrible death, really painful etc.

ElectricTonight · 16/05/2020 08:46

Yes I am.
