Cheshire mums - I’m relocating please help!

Hello

I’m relocating to Cheshire and we are not from there and live in the SW so don’t know the area much.

We’re looking for somewhere rural/countryside on our doorstep, not too rural that we can’t walk anywhere though. Also good primary schools as our children will be starting school there.

We are open to any areas within Cheshire but as we’re not familiar with the county! So I don’t know where the dodgy areas are and what are the nice places to live!

Niche question but hoping a few of you are from Cheshire and can help me!

Thank you in advance

Where do you need to commute to? And what’s your budget?

BrokenBrit · 04/05/2020 07:47

Most Cheshire villages are nice with lots of surrounding countryside and many (most?) of the schools are good/outstanding.

It really depends on budget and what you are looking for. I am N.Wales border now, so the other side of Chester, but I have lived in different parts of Cheshire before.
Are you looking for the more affluent ‘Cheshire set’ type? If so, Alderley Edge/ Wilmslow/ Prestbury.

If you are looking for more affordable, then Nantwich, Marbury, Wrenbury areas are lovely, also really pretty market town/ rural villages. Sandbach is right on the M6 if travel connections are important to you.

Honestly, I would now avoid Winsford/ Crewe/ Warrington/ Runcorn as towns if possible. I have lived in these places myself so it’s not a knock for anyone who does live there!

Then you have the farming villages south of Chester like Delamere, Kelsall, Tarporley which are also really nice, lots of decent pubs and good dog walks, if that’s your thing.

If you want more specific advice on an area you are thinking of that would help. Good luck!

We need to commute to knutsford and sandbach.

Not at all bothered by affluent areas just want a nice area with lots of nice walks, countryside but also maybe a little high street we can walk to.

Budget not sure as we’ve not sold our house here yet but would think 350 and ideally would like a decent family for this... if possible! Some places I’ve looked this budget would struggle to get a terraced house. Which is why I’m struggling to workout where the nice but more affordable areas are.

You would get a lovely 3/4 bed detached in Winterley / Sandbach for that price with lots of nearby countryside. That’s a decent budget for a lot of Cheshire. Avoid the ‘Cheshire set’ type places and you will be great.

I live in the Haslington end of Crewe ....I would second Haslington/winterley. The bypass goes straight to sandbach and then on to the M6 for knutsford.
Also have a look around Holmes Chapel. It is bigger than when I was a practice nurse there in the 1990s but still feels village like.

Great thing about round here is we are close enough to the m6 and the railway station. Every major northwest city is around 45 mins away either by train or car.

@sixtimes I think you have misread an intention in my post that wasn’t there.
I’m not sure I am at all ignorant or snotty and I think I gave helpful advice.
OP asked for advice to ‘avoid dodgy areas’ and suggest ‘nice places’ to live?! Confused. Honestly only one person on this thread is being rude!

sixtimes · 05/05/2020 12:56

BrokenBrit - It's sweeping statements about any towns/villages that I object to - not all areas in all towns are 'dodgy'. The areas I mentioned are beautiful & a pleasure to live in. Please Google them - you may be pleasantly surprised.

BrokenBrit · 05/05/2020 13:04

@sixtimes it’s difficult to give in-depth advice on a forum about a load of towns, I was just giving the OP some suggestions that may fit her criteria as I have had the fairly unique position of living in many different areas.

However I have never been to any of the towns you describe and didn’t comment on them. I am sure they are lovely.
I have lived in Winsford and Crewe personally so I felt safe in not recommending them as they don’t fit the OPs criteria of being rural. I didn’t even call anywhere dodgy I was quoting you the original post. I am sure most people are aware that everywhere has good and bad areas Confused.
Honestly I really think you are over reacting to my comments and your comments about me being snotty and ignorant were hurtful to me when I was only trying to help the OP!

@sixtimes - I thought you’d posted on the wrong thread when I first read your post - there was nothing snooty or rude at all about BrokenBrit’s post. You’ve overreacted (or read her wrong?) and been quite rude.
