Aarrgghhhhhh! Ds1 has discovered club penguin in a BIG way - joined yesterday and has got instantly obsessed with saving enough money to buy a diving suit/flippers/hat/watch/puffle (and they're 800 coins!!).

Please tell me I'm not the only one sad enough to have discovered I'm really good at the coffee bean game and there's lots of pressure being put on me to help save up for a puffle?

Of course the reason I thought club penguin was a good idea was to help ds1 with his reading and writing -he's on safe mode but I was merrily thinking he could find words like 'hello' and click on them. Oh no, he's not at all interested in any kind of penguin interaction, just plays games to earn coins and races back to the gift shop to flick through the catalogue... Should have known this would happen - it's like his obsession with the Argos catalogue, only on-line!

ha ha! my two ds's age 8 & 6 are obsessed too! Has yours discovered the club penguin cheats yet??! Apparently you go on to google and type in club penguin cheats and it brings up a website that shows you where there's loads of free stuff etc!!! mine found this out from school! - or am I just feulling his obsession by telling you that??!!

Ds (7) loves it too - his gran (on our instructions) gave him full memebership, so he could start buying a wider range of things.

it is teaching him maths and the value of money though - 1572-800(for a puffle) = ?

No!!!!! Don't tell me things like that! Was seriously thinking yesterday that the time has nearly come when we need 2 computers - Sunday's usually my MN-ing day (in between looking after the children's every need, obviously) but the little sod darling was on sodding Club Penguin all afternoon.

I can see (a) the timer being brought out to Regulate time spent on it and (b) computer time rewards for jobs done around the house being awarded!

I won't - ds is only allowed to have his membership renewed if he's been good - and he was so outrageous at football training on Saturday that I am refusing to renew it til next week!

I really enjoy earning my dcs coins while they're at school. they get home and discover they've got twice as many coins as they thought they had. They still haven't worked out how it happens - they really are onaccountably thick!

Prettybird - I have no idea but ds1 would work it out if it meant he could buy a puffle AND a divers' helmet...

Mine are just doing the free stuff at the mo but Ds1 has been asking for ages to become a member..how much does the shortest / cheapest work out roughly with the exchange rate then?

DottyDot · 17/09/2007 09:55

I signed up yesterday for monthly payments and I think it was just over £3 a month. It does seem good - safe - and I'm hoping in time ds1 will get less coin obsessed () and possibly start to interact. Utterly amazing how quickly they get the hang of where everything is and what to do - quite scary really.

that's not too bad is it..and by doing it monthly I won't waste money if they suddenly go onto another fad!!

Ds1 knows I go on here to "talk to other mums" - he'll be chuffed when I tell him we were talking about club penguin!

Right housework calls unfortunately, bye for now.

seeker · 17/09/2007 11:02

And it is an absolutely brilliant sanction/threat! My dd has to collect stars during the month or I put off renewing it. Works wonders!

It's kept my ds on the straight and narrow for 6 months now, Dotty! He blew it on Saturday so he's got a puffle free week this week!

DottyDot · 17/09/2007 20:22

Well I've just earned him about 400 points so I'll be super-Mum tomorrow!

Never thought of boosting his points as a surprise! Dh and I will have tot hink about doing that some time.

Hulababy · 18/09/2007 13:04

I have refused to pay for it, DD gets the freebie stuff and that's it!

theimpsmum · 18/09/2007 13:10

Can I just say a big THANK YOU to dottydot and the rest of you for this thread.
Club Penguin has become an overnight favourite in our house ,not just with my dd but with me too

gess · 18/09/2007 13:20

Ha ha your email on this made me laugh. You need to find the games that give you lots of coins for small effort. The mine surfing one is good (as is the sea surfing).

The igloos are funny - there are some that are really thoughfully laid out (planted I think by the owners) and others which are just a place to cram 'stuff'. Loads and loads of it (ds2's is like this).

We had meltdown here when ds2 bought a cheerleaders dress by mistake "it's giiiirrrrllls get rid of it, oh not girls, I can't have girls things agggghhhhh'. I had tears streaming down my face from laughing

Wiat until he becomes a secret agent then you get roped into solving mysteries. I seem to be the only one capable of doing it in our house so am frequently begged to come and help decode secret messages.
