i have just bought a knitting machine with free patterns, video manual, info leaflet (how to use) and loads of other bits and bobs for 3 pound. It is pretty new too.

It has really made my day Just had to share!

Don't know if they'd be compatible but SOMEWHERE I have loads of punchcards for all sorts of patterns, even have some books somewhere! (They might be rather out of date now.)
Gather dust in the loft -I believe mine is a Brother KH???, punchcard, ribber, garter, intarsia carriage!!! OMG what a waste- I have no where to put it.

Dingle · 12/10/2004 14:05

And yes, very impressed. What a bargain!

prettycandles · 12/10/2004 14:06

I've got a vintage pattern booklet of knitted outfits for 12, 14, 16, 20 inch high dolls. It's probably from the late 60s (my mum knitted my dolls' clothes when I was little). If anyone's interested I'll scan it and post it somewhere - but I don't know where...I can feel a whole new thread coming up.

Dingle cant you get your husband to commission an extension on the rear of your property to accomodate all you knitting requirements? or better still you could knit an extension out of waterproof wool

Hello Dingle! Gin How are you?

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:08

Dingle, there are some nice baby doll's patterns out there. I wasn't sure whether you meant free online ones, or ones you could buy online? If you don't mind buying them, then you could go to cnyttan , do a pattern search on "doll" and you get loads. I can't link to it directly because it uses frames, but it's easy enough to navigate. They're very good and I think p+p is free for patterns. There are usually loads on eBay too. There are free patterns here for example, but they aren't usually as good (check out the finger puppet teletubbies ). If you have trouble finding what you want CAT me!

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:10

prettycandles, don't want to come across holier than thou, but that would be a pretty big copyright infringement, so I would be a bit careful to be honest.

Only just read about the TWO knitting machines! Get the children going with them, you could have your own little sweatshop

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:10

earlybird, it's on blackstock rd,n4 (near finsbury park tube) they have some rowan wools and other cheaper stuff. i think it's called lenarow, it's not trendy looking, iyswim but has great pom poms and sundry crafty things for dd too. there's about 50p a ball off lots of rowan yarns atm too.

marina, dontcha just love it when they get snot on a lovely cardi? dd2's bob tanktop gets whipped off before she has any food (and that's with a bib on)

now concentrating efforts on crocheting blanket which will become family heirloom, obviously

Dingle · 12/10/2004 14:11

Prettycandles, yes please!!! I believe Baby Annabelle is 46cms/about 18inches. If you have any patterns that might suit- I would love a copy.

prettycandles · 12/10/2004 14:13

Yikes, yes of course you're right tamum! All I thought was 'vintage' ie old, therefore out of copyright...but I used to work in publishing, so I should know better .

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:16

It's alright prettycandles, I won't tell

Marina, while we're competing for saddo knitter of the year, I am a member of the UKHandknitters group on Yahoo, and I read the posts every day

Bundle, the A line dress looks fab, thank you!

Dingle · 12/10/2004 14:17

OOh OOh ,,lot's going on!!
Don't want to get anyone in trouble-yes I am happy to buy them.
Snmum- if I ever get my extension I think its main use would be a speech & lang room for dd, her "stuff" is taking over my dining room!
But just in case-do you know of any cheap waterproof wool suppliers?
Cadbury- I'm fine, busy as ever but still finding time to "waste" on here! And you?
Thanks for all the other info-will sift through.

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:20

earlybird, also knitrowan.com has a list of stockists of rowan wools - you can click on north/south/whatever in london. hth

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:22

Earlybird, Liberty also sells wool, esp. Rowan.

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:22

I missed it, but wasn't there a bit knitting event at ally pally this weekend, and the world fast-knitting record was broken? (sad, i know, that i retain these facts)

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:23

Yup, I even know how they timed them

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:23

oooh spill the beans..do they do one giant row??

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:25

Nope. 40 stitches in acrylic wool on 4 mm needles, knit for 3 minutes and count the stitches. The winner did 255 (I had to look that bit up, honest). It's a wonder I am able to do science quite frankly, the amount of brain I use up with rubbish like this.

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:28

ooooh acrylic too! isn't there a fire risk when they're going that fast? and do they have a special technique for changing ends, like backstroke swimmers do in the olympics?

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:30

Ah, the smell of scorching...

bundle · 12/10/2004 14:33

i bet there are all sorts of tales too of needle-knobbling and calls for random drug tests. tut tut.

prettycandles · 12/10/2004 14:45

I used to purl backwards, I didn't change hands at the end of a row.

tamum · 12/10/2004 14:49

Blimey!

snmum · 12/10/2004 14:52

gosh i am very impressed too!

tamum i love the idea of a knitting line in my house, i could even train the dogs to get involved
