I'm thinking about getting a swimming pool / paddling pool for the garden!

I started looking for a paddling pool and then saw bigger swimming poles which start at around £150 and go up from there.

Just wondering if anyone has one and what your thoughts are?

Should i go for a paddling pool? Or a bigger swimming pool?

Also wondering what fun things i could get for dd 13 to play with in the garden :)

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for paddling pool recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best paddling pool page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

We had one with the inflatable top ring years ago. Fair size probably about 10 feet.

It was great and you can lay in the pool with your arms draped comfortably over the inflated top.

It's also kinder if kids feel like playing about and jumping on the sides.

We got a solid side type to replace it and no one used it at all! Waste of money for a replacement.

The inflatable top ring type are less expensive too.

@planningaheadtoday thank you for letting me know :)

I'll order one :)

Did you have a heater for it? Or did the sun heat it enough?

Also did you have a cover for it and did it fit well?

As on some reviews for pools alot of people are saying the cover doesnt fit well

I had a 5m steel frame/lining Intex one once - filter pump and everything.

It was fantastic but it was a very hot summer (not UK), and it was still a bit cold a lot of the time.

If you tried to do lengths, the water got a bit of a wave up and slopped around a bit

You did have to do all the water treatment stuff to keep it safe - it wasn't a big deal, but you did have to do a little something most days.

It was surprisingly straightforward to put up though, and the kids and me did have a lot of fun in it.

@Upsidedownrightnow

It was quite shallow compared with the solid side pools. I positioned it in the full sun and used at parasol positioned next to it if we got too hot.
It and it was cool but not freezing. I ordered a circular bubble wrap disc that bestway do. This worked well at keeping the heat from the sun in and bugs out overnight.

We had a little pump that ran constantly to filter the water and I would put the chlorine tablets in this to disperse slowly.
