Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome on Holby City

Did anyone watch Holby last night? There was a lady whose unborn baby was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. They told her that that the baby would only live for a few hours when born, and the best option was termination (she was 26 weeks). A bit later they did mention that there are a series of operations that can be done, but even so the baby probably wouldn't live past 8 or 10 months.
This is so wrong It is a very serious heart condition, but many children are surviving now and living a good quality of life.
I know it is only a TV programme, but imagine there was a mother watching whose unborn baby had HLHS...how would they feel?

Who should I complain to? By email if possible.

Oh i don't know Wallace but that's awful!
As you say, imagine if some mam and dad had been watching with the same thing going on and got conflicting info. I know it's a fiction but surely it should be accurate!

I saw it too wallace You should definately complain to the BBC!

There is a "contact us" link on the BBC website for Holby City.

please see my thread on Sarah Grace Boxes - this little girl died at 3 days old from HLHS - it was undiagnosed prior to her birth because of an inadequate scan.

if anybody could help I would really appreciate it.

I think you should say something wallace - this could have been incredibly hurtful if Sarah's mum was watching..

Have a look at this website or this one

Or e-mail Radio Times - [email protected].

wow that is sooo wrong - that is what the local hospital initially diagnosed dd's heart defect and that really is not the correct info... from our research the babe would need some operations in the first year of life and a possible transplant around teenage years..... That is sooo wrong.

Dd did not have a HPLH.... something else but am so glad I did not watch it when we were waiting for fetal cardiac scan!!!

they've got quite a few things wrong - eg advice on what women with anti-phospholipid syndrome should take during pregnancy. their medical advisors obviously aren't up to it..

I watched this and was appalled. I've posted on the Holby message board and I've e-mailed Points of View.

The programme is watched by a couple of million and there was probably a mum in just that situation watching. It was just so insenstive and medically speaking downright wrong.
